I'm not sure how I feel. The beer could have serious issues, but I'm hesitant to say much until Goose makes a statement.

All I can say is I've opened 1 bottle and it was quite good, though different than last year

If you're going to try to trade BCBCS right now, you ought to at least make your audience aware of what's going on IMO. If they still want to make the trade happen, they know the whole story beforehand.

we're all adults here, so buyer beware. if someone wants to run that risk, i say it's on them. the FT'er could never guarantee that the particular bottle is infection-free. it's really no different than someone trading for a bottle of CBS -- at this point, it could be a shell of its old self, or it could be fantastic.

Sure, buyer beware, but that's assuming that everyone knows there have been many reports of infection. I think the issue here is disclosure, as I'm sure there are lots of people out there who are completely unaware that there is a significant risk with this beer. In my opinion, if you are aware of this and you attempt to trade this beer without stating the infection risk, you are attempting to take advantage of someone else's ignorance.

Informed consent. As long as you let your trade partner know (and frankly it has been front page on this site for weeks, and all over untappd etc..., so everyone who trades probably knows about it!) then it is on them - they can chose to trade for one or not, but they knew there was a potential issue and decided to take the chance anyway.

Thinking you don't need to inform people of potential infection problems, and that it's everyone for themselves in that light.....that speaks volumes to me.

Um, no...First, if you dont let your trading partner know that there could be infection problem before trading it, your just not a good trader (just an example, not saying your not)..Secondly, comparing an infection to something that might have fallen off because of age is ridiculous..Those are two totally different things that have absolutely nothing in common...My point is, be a good trading partner...What you said, is not...Especially with the garbage buyer beware..

"Um," where in the world did I say you shouldn't warn people? The original post was about not trading AT ALL. And that's to what I was responding. Please don't put words in my mouth. And please do NOT insinuate that I'm anything but a good trading partner.

Four of my six bottles were gushers. Others are reporting the same, in addition to sour and off flavors. It's quite different than a bottle of CBS fading. IMO, these are not bottles you should be trading, simply because you know you're doing it with the full knowledge that you're dumping them on someone and removing your own risk. And WTF with so many posts are being deleted from this thread? Also speaks volumes.

Many of the people I've seen ISO BCBCS are seasoned traders and definitely aware of the potential issues. Just saying. I guess if you can get some for a deal then its worth a shot?

I have pretty much only seen FT for coffee for the past week now (perhaps a few ISO, but not many) so I suspect @4truth is right, at least some of these people are trying to offload the risk

I think it really comes down to what you are asking for it. If you were offering BCBCS and ISO $4$ on Heady from a Vermont local? So long as you say 'be aware of infection chatter' then sure, why the hell not. The guy sending the heady can always get more and there is no way heady would normally go $4$ on coffee in a trade.

Likewise there is a post from last night with 2x regal + BCBCS looking for FO. The guy acknowledges the issue in his post and offers 2014 BCBCS instead if you are worried about it - totally fair and legit since it is really only a plus to the trade, and they guy is offering you the option.

The douchey thing I am seeing at the moment is people posting ISO for serious stuff or big ratios, and that looks for all money to be a dick offloading. There is a guy looking for 6:1 on Heady / SOS, so he is looking to double his money while offloading coffee. Another guy is trying to flip a rare + 2 coffee for prop + VR. Neither of these posts reference the issue or offer an alternative if you are concerned about infection, so there are some iffy looking FT at the moment...

If comments on trade forums were enabled people could reply and post a link to the infection thread if someone hasn't mentioned it. Problem with that, is that you will have every BCBCS trade thread devolve into a shit show as people argue about if it is infected, and if it is OK to be trading it... The guy offering a trade with Coffee as a + and offering options? I bet he would get trolled to hell by people mocking him even though he is acknowledging the issue and offering last years coffee as a substitute.

Diatribe I know, but you can't really have a blanket statement about if it is OK to trade a beer or not if there is infection chatter or talk about problems. Hell, if it turns out that Barleywine is infected too (there is some chatter too) then I know of people who actually like brett Barleywines. The rumor I read was that the infection came from some sour sisters barrels, and some people actually like that stuff!

So obviously the BCBBW is showing signs of infection as well. Sure hope Rare and regular are going to be ok.

I had one bottle that was perfectly fine. It tasted just as it was supposed to taste and I refuse to buy, or trade for, anymore.

True. That said, if I hadn't already had a couple of great bottles I would pick one up for retail ($13) and roll the dice, but paying through the nose? Hell no.

I really don't know how people got cases anyway, I got a few bottles and that was only because I was extremely lucky

Oh, and I love the humble brags from folks saying stuff like "I've opened 5 bottles now and 3 were bad." How cool of them

Dude, I was not humblebragging in the least when I wrote that nor do I think I'm cool that I did that. I wanted to know so I opened them. Then I posted here for the benefit of the group. One was great and tasted similar to what I had at FOBAB. The others were not. I've enjoyed your posts in the past, don't know why you gotta go there, but hey have a great day sunshine!

When you put buyer beware, it was my assumption just based off of what it means...Apologize for assuming..
