Not a fan of black ipa's but I thought Blindfold was better than most. Glad this year's mix ditched the session one and Snow Wit . Ruthless Rye rocks !

Ya sublimely self righteous is so Damn good. Anyone ever have the Sierra Nevada 2013 devastation bombers. They are even better to me. Had 3 so far and even more still sitting in the back of the cooler at the store I go to.

Grand Teton's Trout Hop is the tits. Too bad, I don't think they have MA distribution anymore so I haven't seen them in years.

This is my new go to 12/24 pack for the next few months. Sounds great.

Pretty sure that is being replaced by a new "spring" seasonal and now its only in the IPA pack. @sierranevadabill can tell us more...

Awesome, they got rid of the lesser 2 of the 4pack and threw in an amazing beer (Rye) and something new. Hype!

If you were to drink a Black Rajah from Brew Kettle blindfolded, you would never guess it was a Black IPA.

Same here, there's been one or two that I've thought were good (and still not nearly as good as a regular IPA). I think it's a bad idea.....just like White IPAs, Belgian IPAs, IPLs....etc. I like regular old IPAs the best. Apparently so do the users of this website if you judge by ratings.

I love these Sierra mix-packs. Even with the 'regulars' (Torpedo, SNPA) thrown into the mix.

Total tangent here but is Black Hatter brewed on a regular basis? I've only had it around Hatter Day, and assumed it was a limited release, but I saw bottles of it for sale when I was in Michigan over the holidays.

Some of my favorite Black IPAs:

    · Firestone Walker Wookey Jack

    · Stone Sublimely Self-righteous

    · New Glarus Black Top

    · 21st Amendment Back in Black

    · The Alchemist / Ninkasi / Stone More Brown Than Black IPA

    · Hill Farmstead James Black Ale

    · Etc.

Yup, plenty of very tasty Black IPAs out there.

    Cheers!

And.............contrary to Jack, Black IPAs don't do a lot for me. I love Stone SSRA (always have since the 11th) and I like FW Wookie Jack, but beyond that there have not been any that I really like (yes, I have tried a bunch).

Anyway, back on topic. This IPA pack sounds really solid.

But Keith you stated: “I love Stone SSRA (always have since the 11th) and I like FW Wookie Jack,,,,”

Loving/liking two Black IPAs is a ‘good thing’, no?

    Cheers!

I'll defiantly buy one, last one was a "Meh" for me. I didn't like Nooner and the Sno Wit just made me wish it was a Kellerweise.

Good list. 21st Amendment Back in Black was revelatory for me when I first tried it. Candied orange peels and chocolate malts? What could be better? Had it again last year and didn't find it so outstanding, but you always remember your first.

Anyway, Hill Farmstead's Society & Solitude #2 is another great beer that's tagged as a black IPA on beeradvocate.com (although in my opinion, if that's what it is, it's a totally different interpretation from any other).

You might want to give the Back in Black another try once 21st Amendment gets their new California brewery up and going.

    Cheers!

I think I will do. You must be referring to the new operation in San Leandro? I hadn't heard anything about it, actually. Neat!

They have also done a beer at their SF pub called 'Midnight at Waterloo' that hit pretty close to home in what I liked about Back in Black. But I think that one's seasonal or maybe was a one-off.
