Starting to get a little burnt out by hoppy beers & want to drink more stouts & porters. Prefer beers I have a reasonable shot at finding around Boston. Looking for suggestions in 2 areas but the beer doesn't need to fit both criteria.

    1) Most stouts/porters I find are huge ABV beers in huge bombers. Appropriate for sharing, but tougher when drinking it alone. Are there any lower ABV or 16oz & under beers I should be looking for? Beers like SMS, Founders Porter, Breakfast Stout, & KBS as they come in 12 oz bottles & are not terribly expensive.

    2) Beers with maple or peanut butter. Probably my 2 fave flavors in this style of beer. I've had the one from 14th Star & barely got any maple from it.

Combining the 2 I had BA Maple Brigadiero from Springdale recently & loved it. Checks in around 8% but the Maple addition was just about perfect. And it's a 16 oz bottle.

    Thanks everyone.

Also wouldn't be opposed to a good Brown Ale.

    Smuttynose Robust Porter
    Ipswich Oatmeal Stout
    Founders Porter
    Founders Breakfast Stout
    Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

Jack's Abby's Framinghammer and Smutty's Robust Porter and Old Brown Dog - readily available and in 12oz bottles. McAuslan's St-Amroise Oatmeal Stout if you stumble across it.

When available, the Trillium stouts are pretty tasty and come in pint cans.

True. I buy PM Dawn everytime they can it. For $5 a can it's an unbeatable deal.

I've had most of these but yeah I will have to try the Couch Surfer & Old Brown Dog. Somehow I've skipped these. And I've never been able to get a TWSS, sure it's great though. Just never go to Tree House.

If it's PB you're looking for, Peanut Butter Raincloud from Foolproof. Have only had it once and don't remember much about it. Do with that info what you will.

Anyone mention werewolves of cambridge from lamplighter? Evil Twin does some maple stouts that are often sold in 12oz format. Also Avery will have some big stouts but also in 12oz, and i recently had the nuttiest professor which i thought was great.

Edit: on second thought you may only be able to find this on draft but I would check beermenus or untappd if you have those.

If you're looking solely NE or local, that's great, but if not: Left Hand milk stout is a nice option; Try the Guiness mixed 12-pack (its great); Elysians Split Shot is a beer I liked; Oh, Eugene from Revolution is an excellent porter; Keep an eye out for Black House by Modern Times (they're in town for the CBF, I think, so maybe their stuff will hit shelves like last year).

I'd recommend Really Old Brown Dog over regular Old Brown Dog, if you can find it. Basically a really smooth English barleywine. Comes in 12 oz bottles as well.

Second this recommendation. Quite tasty peanut butter milk stout. I got a can of it from a friend who lives in the Boston area and I don't think they drove to Maine to get it, but maybe? Worth keeping an eye out on local shelves.

Mast Landing is being distributed by Night Shift but only kegs so far. Cans are only available in Portland.

Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I'll echo the comment about Trillium stouts being delicious. I'll also add that Shed Mountain Ale is a good brown ale that comes in 12 oz bottles and clocks in around 7%. Definitely on the heavier side for a brown ale so probably close to what you're looking for.

I'd add Stoneface Porter and Mayflower Porter to the list.
