From Michigan you might think I'd say Two Hearted, but that's a beer that is so widely distributed that my visitors likely have had it. So I'll recommend a beer from one of my local breweries.

Territorial Brewing is a German-inspired place, and they have a nice Helles called Kenny Lagers. It it doesn't happen to be available, then their Big Yellow Truck will be. It's a German pilsner.

Not in the mood for a German style? Then Rye of Sunshine IPA at my other local, Handmap Brewing, will do.

To pick only one, that's tough and could be misconstrued as, "What's the best beer in your state?". Setting that totally aside, I'm going with a local and obscure brewery with a style you don't really see and it's brewed well: Sherman Street - Bock Bock Bock. An over the top, flavorful Doppelbock with limited distro which makes it special and fun.

    Georgia:
Either Farina from Halfway Crooks or Indominus from Bold Monk, but I'd lean towards Farina (or really anything from Halfway Crooks, it's far and away the best brewery in the state)

I always liked Red Lodge Ales better than Big Sky. So for me, I would say Red Lodge Bent Nail IPA, or Beartooth Pale Ale, maybe Helios Hefe. Of coarse I worked at Yellowstone Bighorn Research Association a few summers while in college, which is just outside Red Lodge, and probably a little biased

Though, had plenty of Moose Drool as well.

Idaho...how many of you have had a beer from Idaho (currently at 93 breweries)? The trouble is, the best ones are usually one offs. Right now I'd have to go with Boise Syringa Pale Ale which is on fairly regularly and is packaged. For stouts, Woodland Empire's Ada County Stout is an annual release that never fails to knock my socks off...

I've had some good ones in my travels to Bear Lake

    Payette - urban surfer
    McCall - mackinaw red
    Grand Teton - little critter
Idaho Brewing - dog slobber brown and highland scotch ale

    My Masshole recs:
*Luxury brew (hard to get, only @ TH): Tree House Very Green - delicious, my favorite TH beer that is regularly produced. Used to be a whale, but almost always available at TH these days. Expen$ive.
*Working Man's IPA: Wormtown Be Hoppy - Widely available, reasonably priced. Very unique taste, a West-Coast IPA, with a creamy taste, like no other brew that I have had.

While I definitely agree with the Yellow Rose answer from my fellow Texans, I would throw in just about anything from Manhattan Project here in Dallas. Really good beers, many different styles. Been doing good stuff for about 10 years now. I know it's not a nod to "one" beer, but I think it's just good stuff. My customers heartily agree. Pick your flavor.

Evaluating beer throughout a state is a pretty tall order. How about the best beer within 10 miles of home (or, if you don't have more than a few close by, among the 5 nearest your home)? A least that would motivate me to get out more.

Hard to choose one, but I’ll pick a favorite that I have had gallons of on tap at the brewery - Wulver by Thirsty Dog. Just a fantastic bourbon barrel aged wee heavy.

Grand Teton Bitch Creek American Brown
    Laughing Dog Huckleberry Cream Ale

It's been a while for both. I got that Laughing Dog beer at a Total Wine in Virginia, which was ticker heaven for someone trying for all the states and not paying too much attention to bottling/canning dates. I found the Grand Teton beer at a store somewhere in Colorado, I think. They were both pretty good, as I recall. I wouldn't mind trying them again, but I wouldn't trade for them.

How's that for a ringing endorsement? :grinning:

Me. I spent an afternoon 6-7 years ago sitting on the porch at Grand Teton and enjoying their beers and the tremendous view. (Along with those ugly power lines.)

I wish they'd paved their parking lot. Every time a vehicle rolls in it kicks such a huge cloud of duston the patio...
