Huh, sorry to hear that, a hiatus is always a good thing in at least one way in that it sharpens your enjoyment when you come back. Sorry to hear it is because of stale product, and few inspired or new offerings, if I get your meaning.

Hope you won't think I am saying anything personal about you  if I mention that it is almost the exact opposite here. New amazing breweries opening, all the ones already open stepping up their quality, new products on shelf, wide assortment of fresh beers of many different styles. No hiatus here.

I take a break from craft about once a week. I have to oblige my drinking partner (wife who does not like beer) about once a week with margaritas. It is either at a mexican restaurant (Negro Modelo) or at a local ice house (usually Samuel Adams). Last nite I saw the chubby little Coors Banquet sitting there in the ice chest, and have read all the love people give that beer her on this site. Well deserved. Had a couple of them and I think that might become my go to AAL for a while.

Well, that's the problem right there. Saying how you feel about an inanimate object has zero correlation to calling somebody anything, good or bad. If I say that I am drinking a great beer, it doesn't mean you are a genius cause you like it, it means I like that beer I am drinking, and I have never met you and have not stated an opinion about you. If I say that beer I am drinking is crap, same thing, I still don't know you and still have not stated an opinion about you.

Take a break? Sometimes. If you're referring to something alcoholic, it'd likely be wine. Occasionally something stronger.
AALs? Blech! :stuck_out_tongue: Never liked 'em. Still don't. ( I do try, occasionally) Had me believing that I just didn't like beer. :slight_frown:,,,,,
I just can't get past the corn smell..... oh yeah...and the taste, what there is of it.

I just had my first Narragansett. Definitely liked it better than Bud. Or any other AAL I have had. But that was because it had MORE flavor, so maybe in terms of what AAL brewers aim for , should not be rated higher? Also "craft " per BA, IIRC, so not a break anyway. Still not as good a summer beer IMHO as many an APA or Hefeweizen.

Totally agree- when I ask my buddies if they want to go grab a beer, I never say: 'Hey guys, let's go grab a craft beer!'

Maybe people can start calling craft beer 'beer', and rename other beer 'beer I don't usually want'?
Is that too much to ask?!?!

No. Because if I get that 30 pack of whatever. I know about how much of that 30 pack of whatever that I could put down in relation to a four or a six of craft. That is going to be quite a bit more than a six pack ov whatever. The costs add up in several ways, so I learn to pace myself with the smaller stuff, which isn't always easy.

Come to think of it I use the term craft beer in posts but not in conversation.

Only it its a occasion where I am somewhere that for some strange reason there is no craft beer available at an event, etc. I am at. Or if it is an evening where I am drinking bourbon I may abstain from beer. Otherwise hell no!

Yeah, sure, sometimes I need a break from beer - it's like one day a year - I call it "Whiskey-only Day" in celebration... ahhhh Whiskey-only Day, June 10th...

Well, I spent two weeks in Bucharest and took a forced break from craft beer... mostly drank re-labeled Heineken (aka Ciuc, Silva, Ursus and Timisoareana) and Tuica (my father-in-law's homemade Romanian hooch).

Recently I turned to Mule Variants (Irish Mule, Canadian Club Mules). I drink Tea's and Ciders when im not drinking craft, I cant stand bud light and heavy, coors, ect.

With the weather being humid lately i been finding myself drinking Vodka Tonic's and a lot of white wine.

Very interesting to see all the responses here.....especially the variation of people's appreciation for beer in general.

Also quite interesting how we now have a new generation of people who only know "craft beer" as we know it today and many of these people compare AALs of old up to the higher standards of modern craft beer. I remember enjoying lots of "shitty" AALs in high school (I think Coors Extra Gold was my first...) and when I got to college (~2007) I was able to slowly gain an appreciation for "good" beer (still not a big fan of the moniker of "craft beer", just as I didn't like the moniker of "micro" beer back when-- but I digress). My point being is that, for me personally, my love for beer has been honed down from sweet, adjunct ridden light beers to hoppier, more flavorful beers over years and years. I cannot imagine my first beer being a Heady or some shit. It just blows my mind that there is a whole generation of beer drinkers cutting their teeth on highly sought after beer. It is no wonder why elitist beer snobs are becoming so prevalent these days and I honestly believe it will only become more commonplace as time goes on. If I had been born 4 or 5 years later I think it is possible I may never have had an appreciation for AALs.

All that being said however, I'm not saying that I can appreciate beer more than these newer beer drinkers (or anyone else for that matter) who only know beers that are packed with flavor. I just believe we are seeing a whole new generation of beer drinkers in general with a completely different set of standards than people of generations past....and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is labeling large groups of people with a negative connotations, regardless of circumstance ("you're an alcoholic if you like AAL" in this case). "Hot taekz" like that add absolutely nothing to the conversation/discussion/debate at hand.

EDIT: Sorry for the long rant....just bored at work on break.

I noticed at TW that SN Pale Ale in cans is 12.99 for a 12 pack. I could probably stretch that out for two weeks. I think I'll start doing that. Was told by the better half she wants to go to Europe next year, so I gotta get saving.
