    Just saw this post floating around on the interwebs and wanted to post it here:

    Seems like more analysis of fruited beers with a different ABV than advertised. As it pertains to The Answer, it's the Rum Passionfruit Pain Killer that came up lower than the advertised 9% -- the result shows 5.8%.

    Can't speak to the context, age of samples, or how legitimate it is, but it is worrying to see more beers reported differently. I mean at the end of the day, a difference between 5.8% and 9% isn't a deal-breaker personally but I can see why people would be concerned.

    I mean, I think that abv influences the price consumers are willing to pay so I can see how those who enjoy these kinds of things would feel deceived. It looks like Burley Oak has internally changed their processes and worked with a higher starting gravity on the JREAM series since the 450 North revelations.

    I’m not defending the Answer, they should definitely know how to/accurately/honestly measure gravity, full stop. However to this one point, the 9% jooses are the same price as the lower ABV ones.

    Truth be told, I have never had a joose/bought a joose/waited in line for a joose so I was ignorant of that fact.

    This whole situation is just funny. Consumers of this style of beer, lets just call it joose but I’m not singling out the Answer, are yelling “we’re being ripped off!” and they’re right, its ridiculous to believe that a brewery wouldn’t know the abv of the beer they “brew” and sell, so there is obviously a good degree of deception going on. But the irony to me is that the whole concept of joose beers is a ripoff. Its $2 worth of fruit puree and beer just mixed together and sold for $20, and people line up for it like its some kind of culinary revolution. Yeah, you’re getting ripped off, but not the way you thought.

    I think the deception (or incompetence) is the bigger issue for most than is "not getting the ABV they paid for" (assuming this is true).

    Would be more concerned if price were based on ABV|: $12 for single, $16 for double, $20 for triple.

    It does raise a bigger point about listing of false ABVs. If they mislabel something low, then they can mislabel it high. I might be comfortable having 2 glasses of some of their ~4% ones and drive, but if they are actually 9.5% you could quickly get into a situation where you don’t know how much you have had before getting behind the wheel.

    Definite entertaining reading the comments. Would have been good at least for an apology or state how they were testing abv previously, if at all, and what methods they will try going forward. And following the “artist” comparison is a stretch.

    We know that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to be on the minds of our staff and our community. We are digesting all available information as it become available. We want to take a moment to share with you what we will be doing to ensure that our co-workers and customers are safe and cared for as this situation continues to evolve.

    Starting TODAY 03.16.2020 will will be providing carry-out only. Hours of purchase are 12PM - 5PM EST on Tuesday - Thursday - Sunday. A list of items for purchase will be available on our Instagram prior to release. Items will be available at the back bar area. We have implemented additional sanitization and cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of our customers and staff. We are reminding our co-workers and customers to take appropriate preventive hygiene methods to minimize the potential risk of infection. We will have on-site signage with additional information.

    All of us at The Answer Brewpub thank you for the trust you have given us. We look forward to serving you to the best of our ability during these uncertain times, with our focus on keeping everyone in our community safe.

    We will continue to watch this situation closely and take guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as local and national authorities.
