Personally I hate this. Those that spend the time to do reviews are not necessarily more qualified than the general populace to dole out ratings, and this significantly narrows down the pool of ratings a beer will have; I prefer ratings on BA to RB specifically BECAUSE there is such a large pool, which is (statistically speaking) better data. While there are those that do a full review for every beer they rate, there are FAR more people who will only take the time to review a beer when they are giving a particularly high or low score, which will serve to drastically skew the beer's score compared to those that person did not do a full review of. Intentionally reducing the quality of your data set makes zero sense.

 

Agree with both of these.

I use BA to tick beers since it is so much easier to find/obtain my history than it is on untappd. Glad they are leaving that ability.

I also like the checkbox on beer ratings page that allows me to filter the ratings to only those with a review because like Mike pointed out, I want to know the details about the flavors not just if you liked it or not.

I'm interested in seeing the result in the new rules for how a beer's overall rating is calculated. Could be some significant shake ups. Also, will this result in more useless reviews since people will now start typing in any old garbage just so that their rating will be 'counted'?

There is also a short blip in there about people's karma score being recalculated too as a result of this change? I could care less about my karma score and what happens to it but I know some people really seem to value that.

Anyway, I just think its going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I'm not a reviewer, and have just rated beers on beer for karma points but I'm also very curious how this will play out too. My rating system is: Ugh, Eh, Yeah, and Boing. That other site is stupid, everything is 100 over there. Over here I read the reviews first, then look at the score. I don't use it to add to my wants as much as to research the beer I just received or am fixing to drink. I add to wants based on what I see Ya'll drinking and talking about on here and on untappd(where I do my logging)

I really like the sorting options - by Following and Likes. Looks like I gotta follow all you reviewing bastards now.

A guy I know in Houston who spends a fair amount of time in NYC for work was talking them up. He gave me the bottle from last night. I'm a big farmhouse guy, so breweries like this always interest me.

 

I thought the exact same thing.

I really like their stuff. It's cool to have a farmhouse brewery in long island city, their stuff is not hyped like Other Half so it is easy to come by, would be happy to send you a sampler of what's on the market in the (hopefully) not too distant future
