Just something Ive noticed in 2017, I cannot for the life of me find (relatively) fresh 16.9 oz bottles of VITUS in my area. I see a lot of 2016 bottles and even some from 2015 (yikes). This saddens me greatly. Have any of you other BA's encountered this dilemna?

Here it's either/or, fresh or last year's stuff. You just gotta read the letters and know the code.

If you wait a couple months Weihenstephan Christmas gift packs should roll around. I think Vitus is typically in there, and it SHOULD be this year's batch. Plus you get a free glass. It's a great deal.

I had a bottle of this last week, not sure how fresh it was but was amazingly delicious. Has been the only Weihenstephan I truly enjoyed. Even if year old still buy it as I'm sure it's still delicious.

I'll also agree with @Benjolovesbeer and say that the Vitus ages really well and a year doesn't hurt it provided it hasn't been abused.

It's my favorite beer from Weihenstephan except for the Korbinian, and I don't know when it comes out (I thought it was year 'round), but I'll be in Freising, Germany in a few weeks so I'm sure I'll come across it and I'll let you know.

Can't say I've ever not loved Vitus.

Can someone enlighten me on the freshness code used?

Pretty sure Weihenstephaner is using a 4 digit bottling code on the back label: first three digits are the numerical day of the year, last digit is the year.

For instance: 3656 would be December 31, 2016.

    Please correct any mistake.

    Weihenstephaner 1516 Kellerbier
    Weihenstephaner Festbier

One of my families favorites. The whole lineup really

Last I had I swear they went with their old 4 digit dating

8027 would be the 8th,18th, or 28th day. With 02 being the week of the year and then 7 being last digit of the year.

So you'd look at the 2nd week and see that the 8th makes the most sense out of the three options. So it'd be January 8th,2017

    Has that changed?

You woulda loved @ColoradoBobs . Back in the day, when there was no WBAYDN thread, only the LNBA thread, CB flew the Vitus flag pretty much every night, and, he was very enthusiastic about it! A great old-school BA. Looks like he checks in every so often, but it's been a couple months now. A collective CHEERS from those of us who still love LNBA!!!!!

If that's the case then what does 9067 mean as what is on my krystall westbier bottle or 6047 on my Koriban bottle as there isn't 906 days in a year nor 604

Nevermind @Oktoberfiesta explains it so therefore my vitus was probably pretty fresh as in was probably brewed this year...now I wish I had the empty bottle to know for sure

9067 indicates 6th week of the year 2017. Looking like February 9th to be exact.

6047 indicates 4th week of the year 2017. Either the 6th, 16th, or 26th. January 26th makes the most sense there.

I've had 1-3 year old wehienstephaner product and it never really let me down. Definitely not a huge concern like so many precise fragile hoppy beers.

A fantastic line up of beers, the Hefeweissbier is arguably one of the 3 or 4 best Hefeweizens in the world.

    Vitus is outstanding.
