I have the IPA glass that Dogfish Head and Spiegelau made and I enjoy using it for IPA's quite a bit. But I haven't heard anything about the stout glass Spiegelau made. Then there are the Samuel Adams pint glass and the Dogfish Head custom glass. What are your thoughts on these glasses and has anyone purchased one and preferred it over traditional glassware for the specific style?

Not a huge fan. I prefer plain glassware with no labeling/branding but thats just me.

While I don't use it every time, pretty much everything tastes best to me from those IPA glasses. Scotch Ales, ESBs, Barleywines etc. I love how much carbonation is released, and how "soft" and easy drinking the beer then is. Cheers!

I've noticed this too. Taking a look at the other custom glass dogfish has I'd say it might be a good choice for beers like Chimay that suggest a chalice.

I have glasses I have purchased from breweries, don't know why but I like to drink beer from brewery glasses. I have a Sierra Nevada glass I use to drink Narwhal, Bigfoot, and Hoptimum from, a Firestone Walker 6 oz brandy snifter I drink their barrel aged beers from, and a few others.
If I really like a particular beer, I feel the need to buy a brewery glass to enjoy it from.

I'm not talking about branded glassware like tulips or snifters or pint glasses, I'm talking about glasses that have been designed for a specific type of brew.

Left hand makes a stout glass that is similar to the ipa glass.... just straight slanted edges on the bottom. I have tested stouts in it vs the tulip and see little difference other then once you get to the bottom... the hard edge almost re carbonates the last bit of beer which is nice

Definitely matters - can't stand being served a lager in a tulip glass, for example - flat within seconds. If it's just branded I can take it or leave it, provided it's the right glass for the right drink.

but, actually, i think @Catracho5 's contribution is somewhat relevant. bottom line is if in your mind it tastes better then that's what counts & so far as you are concerned "it's better", "the glass matters/works/is worth it" etc. sometimes having matching glassware, whether it is exact to style or not, adds a sense of doing things right (to borrow a common phrase). if you feel better about how you are doing it, chances are you'll enjoy your pour more.

however, that does not mean your favorite glass(es) are ever going to make an unpleasant beer any more pleasant or interesting.

I like beer can shaped glasses from breweries. They make a nice display.[IMG]

I'm a glassware ***** and, as such, have an admittedly ridiculous selection. Slightly different than the "brewery designed" beer glasses you're talking about but still engineered specifically for beer- my favorite style glassware is the Itallian designed teku. At least in my mind teku glasses capture the aromas quite well and they have a couple spots that narrow and allow some nice hightlights to show on the more opaque beers. Plus they look damn sexy, albeit more than a little pretentious.

I've never minded a free glass with purchase of case of beer I was going to buy anyways.

I just wish breweries would stop branding shaker pints and start branding more tulip glass.

There's a big difference between the standard Libbey glassware with a brewery logo and a true "brewery designed" glass. Even the IPA glass manufactured by Spiegelau was probably primarily designed by them, with "input" by the breweries, according to the glass' webpage:

Never been a big glassware advocate. As long as I can catch aroma from it and drink out of it I'm okay with it. If I have money to buy glassware I'll likely buy more beer instead!

Since I am going for my cicerone, I am collecting every style glass I can have. Most of the ones I have are Italian breweries which is cool, and the other are Stone Brewing with some clear glasses. I do like getting branded glassware just to collect it
