I finally talked myself into a bottle of the gold and I am excited to try it. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1675/58955/ My question is this, can I enjoy this in small measures over days or even weeks without a drop off in quality? I have read that this can be done with Utopias, has anyone tried it with Xyauyu? I am hesitant to experiment with such a pricey bottle so thanks in advance for your insight and happy New year!
I’ve seen multiple bars sell it as a 1 oz pour (or thereabouts) from an open bottle. I would think that those bottles remained opened for a long time. Take that for what it’s worth.
It's only 16.9 ounces, 13.5% ABV, and appears to go for only $50. Granted, a bit pricey but I'd drink it in one sitting. If I ever get a KBBS, that sells for $100+ and I'll drink that in one sitting. It's beer, not Cognac.
From reviews and research, this is subjected to oxidative aging, making it almost as much sherry as beer. The flavors are apparently incredibly intense as a result. If I can enjoy something this decadent in small measures over an extended period of time that is my strong preference, only partially for economic reasons, though money is a factor. This bottle costs almost as much as 12 bamburanas, which I believe is a favorite of yours as well.
People do that with Utopias too. Utopias is $9/ounce, 28% ABV, un-carbonated, keeps for years at room temperature, and is hard to get, all of which lend to it being sold by the ounce.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this bottle whether you choose to enjoy over several days or weeks or months or all in one sitting. Have recently seen a few on shelves and would consider pulling the trigger.
I never had that but I did have a bottle of its little brother and I dug it. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1675/75692/ Only $35
Any chance you have a keg system with co2 or any of those cartridges? When I have a big bottle or growler I’m not going to finish I shoot some CO2 in to purge the oxygen and recap the bottle, works great to keep things fresh
