True, but a lot more difficult to pull off, and it's a lot of extra effort to go thru if you're trading mid-level, risking getting caught with imperfect, improper, non-matching capping, flat or infected beer, etc. Higher level trading you're more likely to be dealing with wax, or corks. It's so much easier to get screwed over with whiskey while being completely oblivious to it.
    Disgusting.

What is Jack heritage trading for? What would $4$ value be?

Yup, saw someone posting a trade-essentially a whiskey sample for a Tete 16 and I'm thinking "is this guy nuts?"

Again, that's a hilarious extreme. Trying to match the exact wax, capping and even beer in the bottle is just an insane endeavor. The type of person that is willing to go through all that trouble and talented enough to pull it off well is very unlikely to not already have a ... life.

People are accepting partial bottles and whiskey vials from random accounts on Facebook. That's insane, and a drastic difference from a tracked account on here or even other secondary market sites with a long history of trading swapping bottles. People in whiskey groups are begging to get ripped off (or poisoned lmfao).

    Quick slight change of subject...
Does anyone know how rare Mott the Lesser is? It doesn’t get a lot of press, but I know it’s kind of a descendant of the legendary Kate the Great.

Released roughly twice a year with less hype every time. Look out for it mid spring. Shouldn't bee too hard to land a bottle for BL, MT or some of your CA hops.

    Good luck

Mott is not a super coveted brew as @7irondave pointed out. However, that lack of hype mixed in with some unfamiliarity, might be the dilemma. No one is chasing after Mott for secondary market research or trade bait, but rather for personal consumption and vintage progression

The right set of eyes might play a bigger role here, than the options themselves

On that note, it may be a good idea to try to find a regular (prior to release) and set up a trade. That would be my strategy for this, anyway.

    General trade value question:

Why do people think the value people sell their beers for are the same as the trade value of the beer?

Also, when did Facebook become the gold standard for values on beer? I have noticed many discussions where people cite something that happened on Facebook, despite the fact that there is a completed trades section on this site. It becomes harder and harder to keep up with this stuff without being on these other sites as well. From what I remember Facebook is a lawless mess when it comes to beer trades/sales/discussion.

    1. They don't (or shouldn't). They're typically related to one another but I think most people realize that they aren't 1:1. Then again, given difference of preference nothing is really a 1:1 marker so it's really just another data point to go off of.

    2. I think it's simply because far more transactions take place on Facebook. And I certainly wouldn't call it generally a "lawless mess" (though that certainly exists there too).

    Thanks @William_Navidson

I recently looked at a friend's Facebook SBVG group and it pretty much looks like a random number generator. People throwing out all sorts of numbers without much to any supporting details. Have not delved too deep into this, so appreciate your feedback.

The group you're referencing is people posting sales/trades/values from other parts of Facebook and the internet at large in order to ascertain an avg "value." The catch is that many of the places where those transactions take place don't allow screenshots of the transactions, so you're necessarily getting secondhand info. Obviously people *can* post "random numbers" there (to try to inflate the value of a beer artificially?) I guess, but I think more often than not others would call out blatantly false info.

I personally find it pretty helpful for gauging trades simply because it's more up to date, and reliable given the accumulated info (a beer there might have 20 transactions while searching for it here gives you 2). But, I completely understand when people think that sales/razzles/whatever infect that stuff and want to keep that out of their calculus entirely, because I agree that one is not a perfect indicator of the other. Hope that helps!
