Does anyone know if Troegs released (or is planning to release) their tasty Helles Bock this year? Have enjoyed it for the past several years but just realized I haven't seen it anywhere around Boston.

I tried emailing Troegs but didn't receive a response. Their beer locator on their website had zero results as well, and nothing on the Mid-Atlantic BA forum. Hopefully not 86'd for the Mango IPA.

They do have it, but only in the General Store.

It isn't a seasonal in the Hop Cycle anymore. They did have it both on tap and packaged at the brewery recently, it likely is still around. And yes, replaced by First Cut.

It is not being distributed this year. See the discussion in this thread:

That sucks, replaced by a fruit fortified IPA. I really enjoyed Cultivator.

So, this is the new summer seasonal? Did not even know this was coming out.

Actually this was a Simcoe dominated IPA. It's delicious. Tons of Simcoe up front followed by a faint taste of mango.

Yes. I've talked to a couple people who stated that they thought this was Tröegs best beer by far.

Hmmmm...???? What to think? I really enjoyed the Cultivator (I gave it a 4.24), but I've also enjoyed some Hibiscus beers (one from Dieu Du Ciel comes to mind), and I 100% trust the Trogner bros so I guess I'm behind it - in fact, I'm looking forward to it! Additionally, Tröegs is one of a few breweries where I can buy a sampler case and be sure that I'll like every beer in it, so if it's in their Summer Anthology I'm already sold - I'll buy two cases, one for myself and one to take to neighborhood parties.

Yes, it is listed as the Summer beer in the "Hop Cycle Seasonal" category - Along with First Cut (Spring), Hop Knife (Fall), and Blizzard of Hops (Winter).

The Summer Anthology pack will be Perpetual, Sunshine Pils, Crimson Pistil, and a Raspberry Gose

I've had the Gose. It reminds of a less sweet and more sour version of Framboise.

Win win for me, as far as Crimson Pistil goes. Nudged Sunshine to year round (at least in part) and was tasty in nearly every iteration as a Scratch beer.

Loved Cultivator when it was a seasonal. This year, at the brewery.... not so much. First Cut is really becoming one of my favorite Troegs beers that occur with any regularity.

Really? I like it, but one of my favorites? Hmmm, not sure about that. I still really like Blizzard of Hops and I thought Nugget Nectar was below par this year, but is usually one of my favorites.....so maybe First Cut is one of their best if NN isn't the beer I was used to from prior years.

PS: Are they ever going to release Flying Mouflon again?

I'm in agreement that First Cut is amazing. Probably my favorite Tröegs beer. It's between that, Nugget Nectar, and the Oak Barrel Aged Flying Mouflan.

Can't speak to the Flying Mouflan (non BA, that is), but I'd love to see it come back.

As for First Cut, yes... really. I thought it over before typing it.

I do enjoy a lot of the beers that Troegs makes, so it isn't like I'm saying "top 3!" and leaving it there...

Nugget Nectar and I have a very odd relationship. We're just back on ordering terms in the past two years, after being estranged since year one or two...

I also enjoy every beer I've had from them. I can also have a top 3.

I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I can only speak for my opinions. To be clear, I've had some beers from Troegs that were really just not good. Most recently, 278. That was pretty dreadful.

I like First Cut a lot. Anyone else is allowed to rate or categorize it any way they see fit.

I had 278 a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. You're right, we are all open to form our own opinions. That's what makes the world go round.

    Damn shame about Cultivator.

They took the best helles bock brewed in bottles which was slim pickings to begin with. Then replaced it with a fruited ipa that are a dime a dozen.

Shows how aggressive the regional beer game has become. Sell what sells or be damned.
