I just assume all the doughnut beers and siracaha beers from Rogue are troll beers.

Let us see how disgusting we can make a beer, then put it in a brightly colored bottle, then see how many we can sell.

People love fancy bottles (*cough... new bcbs... cough*), they won't care what's inside them.

Yeah, it was a topic of discussion in the regional forum. Their target was actually some former customers they didn't seem to want back but who were sniping at them for having high prices and the nerve to use a business model that stayed within PA state laws or that didn't allow for some of what those folks thought they were entitled to, eg not opening a large format bottle of a bottle only limited release beer so the customer could sample it, limiting high ABV pours to one glass at a time, etc.

Not a terrible premise, in theory. But I don't see how something like Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout is "trolling" anything. A joke is not "trolling". Kinda seems like a very loose use of the term to throw together an article. But that's just me. I admittedly am disproportionately annoyed by things like people using the word ironic when they really mean coincidental. They're not the same thing.

Also, I was surprised to not see the first beer that came to my mind...Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale.

That was a pretty interesting read. Quick, to the point, nothing over the top. I enjoyed it. Thanks OP!

Someone told me a story recently of a brewer who made a batch of bad beer full of Diacetyl. Instead of dumping it out, he renamed it "Butter Beer" and unknowing people loved it.

A handful of different craft breweries out here have made very good malt liquors, I wouldn't call that trolling. But then, I wouldn't have called most of the beers in the article trolling either.

So, I ask, does Clown Shoes' Undead Party Crasher, qualify as a "troll beer"? Or just the name and label as they're obviously trolling the outcome of the lawsuit filed against them by the vineyard who produces a wine called Vampire which forced Clown Shoes to rename their Vampire Slayer stout. In my opinion they're definitely trolling the profession of lawyers as undead, bloodsucking, evil creatures...

You must become unglued when the Alanis Morrisette song "Ironic" plays than, seeing as how absolutely NO example that she gives in that song is ironic, but rather coincidentally awful luck. Seriously, a black fly in your Chardonnay just sucks. Nothing ironic about it.

I think a great one would be a cask-style, smoked IPA that reads "Cask Ipa" and nothing else. Wild (yet restrained) Porter, would be awesome in the same fashion.

Ghostface Killah tastes good for a sip or two, but putting down even 1/2 a bottle is no fun. Beyond the heat, it's just a flavor that isn't meant for mass consumption in liquid form. A single 12oz is easily splittable among a large tasting group.
I've always wanted to taste a beer/cheese soup made with it, though. I imagine that would be quite good.

Is it hot? Absolutely. Especially if you take more than a couple sips. If it isn't the hottest beer I've ever had, it's in the top 2 and I like chili beers a lot.

It's a good little list of beers, some of which I had never heard of before. I don't think all of these beers are trolling, but they are certainly gimmicky attention grabs... I think Ground Control and End of the World beers fall squarely in the gimmick category, but whatever. Still a good read.

I'm really surprised this list didn't have Rogue's White Whale Ale, brewed with pages from Moby Dick. That was bulls-eye shot at craft beer tickers, hunters, traders, and hoarders.
