Hi New Mexico folks. My mom moved to Albuquerque late last year, and I'll probably go and visit her once or twice this year. Aside from La Cumbre, what breweries should I pay attention to? Any particularly good beer bars or shops? Thanks from the PNW.
https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/la-cumbre-brewing-2022.664526/ There's some talk in this thread about ABQ including breweries, food and other NM shenanigans.
Not sure if it's an option after the fact, but it would probably be helpful to rename that other thread to something more general about New Mexico. Feels like both the beer and the food are virtually unknown to people who haven't been.
Gravity Bound and Bow & Arrow were my favorite breweries last weekend at the end of our New Mexico trip, but I also went to the original La Cumbre and Marble spots and enjoyed them. Marble's buildout is pretty stunning. I never hit up any bars or bottle shops in Albuquerque. We were at the end of our trip and I didn't need hotel beers in the evenings at that point. I just bought a Foederland with Canutillo and a mixed 4-pack of cans at B&A to bring home. There was a bar at Sawmill market that had about 40 taps of local NM beer and seemed to encompass a good number of breweries. Eat anything and everything with carne adovada and green chile. My favorite New Mexican restaurants were Mary and Tito's in ABQ, El Parasol and La Choza in Santa Fe and Rancho de Chimayo in Chimayo.
Thanks for the heads up on Rancho de Chimayo. I saw them online and was curious how the food was there. It looked good but you know how that goes...
Oh yeah, Bow & Arrow's Denim Tux was the best pilsner I drank in New Mexico. That addition of blue corn adds a great black pepper note in the finish that is absolutely killer.
Here's a question that feels appropriate for the ABQ folks. Is Bosque using Sleeping Giant for their distributed cans? I recall maybe 4-5 years ago they were exploring the concept. I think they might have even gone through with it. No shame in that, I was just curious if I basically just bought cans that were brewed/packaged in Denver OR if there was some way to buy them direct sans the 5-hour drive south.
I know this isn't ALQ, but Santa Fe bc HQ in Santa Fe was great. Went there and Rowley for spring break from CO and both were good.
Albuquerque native that now lives in Georgia. Going to visit my parents and looking for recommendation for great food and good beer selection. Used to like Chama River but they have closed. Any great gastropub? Also any suggestions on gluten free as one in our group had celiac.
