    Hello,

I will be visiting Asheville for the first time next week and I am looking forward to the Asheville brewery experience. I was looking for one of those "visiting Asheville" threads where locals tell you the "don't miss" breweries to hit (and what to avoid). Is there one here that I missed? If not, can somebody give me a top 5 or something? I like IPAs of many kinds, stouts, porters, etc. I can appreciate many styles of beer. From what I understand, Burial and Wicked Weed are popular (despite ABI's buyout). I do plan to visit a few around those walking around, but I'd rather not wander aimlessly toward subpar beer!

I appreciate any help you can give.

To add in on this thread. Are any of these breweries kid friendly? I am doing a similar trip but bringing rug rats

Except Wedge. Kids are allowed but not exactly encouraged.

There is a reason for that, feral children have made visits unpleasant in the past, plus scare the crap out of you as they run through traffic in the parking lot.

Current rules is that kids are supposed to be within 10' of their adult, and be gone by 8 PM.

On wicked weeds webpage for the tap rooms it list the options but some have a bottle icon, does that bottle icon mean it's a take out option or on site only bottle?

You need to travel down to mills river (15min drive from asheville) and do Sierra Nevada. Kent basically said how much money can I throw into this place and did it. It's pretty awesome and the restaurant has been rated #1 in NC for a while. If you go to the website you may be able to book a free tour that ends with a private bar tasting.

Having just been to Asheville for the first time this weekend, everyone told me to go and I hemmed and hawed because I only had Friday and Saturday in town and I didn't want to spend it at a place where I can get most of the offerings virtually everywhere in the united states.

They were right. The venue is amazing. Do it.

The reason is mainly personal preference from the "decision makers".

Means on-site bottle only. They will typically have those bottles for take out as well (and typically have others for take out also) from the bottle store, but there's been a couple of limited cases that I've seen that they didn't have the bottles for take out.

Was just there a few days ago and only had that evening to see Asheville. I hit wicked weed brewpub, green man, burial, and the funkatorium. Each place was cool in its own way. I wish I had more time to see everything. Really enjoyed myself and I hope to come back one day to experience more of what Asheville has to offer.

They're pretty much all pet friendly as well, as well as they can be. NC is getting on a kick of not allowing dogs inside of breweries (since breweries have to have food and beverage safety checks and its illegal to have dogs inside restaurants), but outside seating is fine with every brewery I've seen in Asheville. Wedge would probably be the only exception where I believe there dog policy is basically the same as their kid policy.

Likely based on complaints from people that just want to enjoy a relaxed visit and a good beer.

The fact the rules on kids were added only in the last couple of years indicates they are based on complaints, not prejudice on the 'decision makers' part.

    Or not.

The Wedge has operated this way since the beginning regardless if they started to vocalize it more in recent years.

Turning Leaf is really kid friendly. Saw plenty there last time I went in.

wanted to say thanks for the advice above guys, I went to Sierra Nevada. I was there for 3 hours with my 3 and 5 year old and never felt I was bothering others and the kids weren't bored for a second
