I don't quite know what to think. My first reaction was wondering why a town in Oregon would need to work to attract a brewery. Is that a sign that there's just not enough demand? But I probably would have thought that about Prineville before Ochoco (Solstice) opened, and have seen how that brewery has become embraced by its locals. Seth at Mecca Grade was involved, so if he thinks it's worth pursuing, I'm on board.

I purposely posted that without comment, just to see what the comments would be. That said, I find it interesting that the "Powers That Be" in that town can that recognize the value of a neighborhood brewery can bring to town. A town of 7000 people already spends $18mil on food and drink? A brewery (as posited in the article) can do nothing but create moar opportunities.

Not sure if this is worth making a thread for (too bad I can't necro this old thread) but Boneyard has bottled Gooze Cruze:

Wanted to try that one, but never got the chance. They put it on when I was visiting back in August, but hard to drag a group of people to it for tasters-only and no crowlers so I passed.

I had it at Toronado last year. It was ok.

$25 seems steep, but I dig the packaging (especially the C&C).

    Couple of interesting releases:

    - Silver Moon Boysen the Wood, a boysenberry Baltic Porter aged in two sets of local distillery barrels (rye whiskey and bourbon). Bottles are sold as a 2 pack of 1 each variant, and the draft is a blend.

    - Boneyard Gooze Cruze as mentioned above. Perfect timing for a NYE midnight toast in lieu of champagne.

I made two trips to the area during the lifetime of this thread and forgot to post about both of them. Oops.

Stayed in Sunriver in August and was my first time going to Sunriver Brewing. I skipped it last time I was there thinking it was a tourist gimmick and wouldn't have good beer, but this thread set me straight. Ended up going four or five times and drank the entire menu, but I really liked the Rippin. There's a small patio out back that you can go to and drink with limited happy-hour style food menu if you want to avoid the crowds.

Did visit Bend a couple times. Had some wine people in the group, but ended up avoiding the wine and going to The Ale Apothecary and then going back with a larger group. Can't say enough good things about it and even the wine people loved it (La Tache seemed to be their favorite). The staff was great and they even mixed up the bottles they were pouring for when we returned so they could try some different ones. I've had everything they were pouring by the glass except Bizzaro La Tache, so I opted for a bottle of Chenin La Tache and then a couple days later... couldn't resist so I got another bottle of Chenin La Tache. So good.

Also my first time going to Bend Brewing and that was really nice being able to sit in that grass area drinking a beer while waiting for a table (for food). Also very happy with their beer which I haven't had before. Ended up going back there in November which was quite a bit colder but sitting outside under heat lamps and by the fire was nice.

I went a little crazy at Broken Top Bottle Shop. The owner heard my excitement and came out and started talking to me and pulling out some beers that weren't on shelves that I was looking for. Really nice guy. It was really surprising how much of Fremont's The Lamb was sitting around that city though. I hadn't seen a bottle since the week it released out here, but Whole Foods alone seemed to have cases of it.

Fun little town. Just wish it was a bit closer so I could go more often. Something like a bullet train between Seattle and Bend would be perfect.

Got confirmation that North Rim is officially kaput. Have heard rumors that Bend Brewing has been putting in time on their equipment, but no indication that they've fully taken over the space.

Craft Kitchen + Brewery has moved out of their location by the river and is serving out of a location on the north end of town off Empire Blvd.

Gonna be down in Bend for a bit next week, but unfortunately not when the Ale Apothecary tasting room is open. Any recommendations for the best spots to hit if I'm looking for my Ale Apoth fix? #kthxbyeeeee

Crows Feet Commons usually has bottles (you might even be able to drink there). The Brew Shop above Platypus. Newport Avenue Market.

Broken Top Bottle Shop, too. If you go to Newport Market, the AA stuff is around the corner from the rest of the beer, next to their small meat dept.
