Hey guys, I'm heading to Charlotte, NC to visit a friend and was wondering what some good beers to check out that aren't available Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri or Kansas. Also, are there any good bars with tons of taps or any good bottle shops in the city?

Plenty of info on breweries and bottle shops here:

Recent additions to breweries are Sycamore and Sugar Creek (both in the Southend area).

As for beers? I suggest you go to a bottle shop like Brawleys, Salud and/or Good Bottle Company and ask the owners. There is a lot of good bottles coming out of the state.

If you like sours, grab one of everything Wicked Weed bottles.
Noda Hop Drop and Roll is a must.
Triple C The Dudes Imbides (unheralded Rum BA Imp. Milk Stout).
Olde Hickory Lindley Park and Imp Stout.

The list goes on and on. If you get a chance, hop the border into SC so you grab some Westbrook and COAST.

Really really dig The Dude Imbibes as well. Birdsong just released their Mexicali Stout aged on bourbon barrels and cinnamon called Turtles on Pterodactyls, which I thought was extremely tasty as well. But @NoMoreBeerBelly pretty much nailed it I think.

Question though, I'm a CLT native, and haven't made the hop over into SC to grab any Westbrook or COAST, but I'd definitely like to. Any suggestions on where to go to get any? Are there some good places specifically to hit up in Rock Hill or Fort Mill? Many thanks in advance.

Grapevine in Baxter Village, Frugal MacDoogal's near Carowinds and Stateliness Elite and Southern Spirits on 521(Johnstone Rd) are your close to Charlotte SC places for COAST and Westbrook.

Side note, they are "local" but Maine Beer Company is now distributing in SC. Got a bottle of MO at one of the spots above. VERY SOLID Pale Ale. I will be buying more of these. Probably can't get these over your way.

Plenty of bars around town that deserve a mention, but since you haven't mentioned which part of town you will be staying at, I will simply say Duckworth's as they have 4 spots around Charlotte all with 40+ taps. I think the one up off Exit 25 has close to 100.

    Thanks for the mention!

Our Mooresville location on Exit 36 from I-77 has 46 taps.
Our Park Rd (Montford Dr) location has 61 taps (including the beer engine)
Our Ballantyne location has 80 taps
Our Huntersville Exit 25 on I-77 has 113 taps (including the beer engine)

Uptown Charlotte will feature 151 taps and The Cellar in the basement will feature 21 taps (both floors include a beer engine)

@Duckworths what is a beer engine? I've been to your Park Rd location multiple times and this is the first I'm hearing of it.

Also, you have some of the most awesome waitstaff I've ever encountered at that location.

If I have to make one stop, I go to Southern Spirits in 521 just over the border in Ballantyne. Grapevine would be my second choice or if I was already on 77. But generally though, Southern Spirits has the best selection of WB and Coast.

A beer engine is what is used to serve cask ale. Basically a large tap handle that you basically pump to bring the beer out as opposed to just opening the handle and letting the beer flow out like you do with a normal tap.
