I have a good friend visiting Connecticut in the next week or two, and I was hoping you guys could provide some advice on specific bottle shops to visit and beers to grab (that aren't available in the southeast obviously).

He's going to be staying around the Old Saybrook area. I've checked out Connecticut's beeradvocate page already, but a lot of the local stores pages seemed very outdated. Any good recommendations for good beer/stores?

Not sure about bottle shops around that area but beers around here you should seek out are Sip, Nebco beers (sea hag, 668 and doubtfully ghandi bot) captains daughter and fair maiden from the foley brothers. Less hyped but still good are back east pallet mallet. Also, All Maine beer co beers if you dotn get distribution down there.

If Jacks Abby makes it to CT I'd recommend that as well. Mass Rising my personal fav of their beers that see distribution

Can you take him to a brewery? If so go to Beer'd in Stonington. Otherwise look for NEBCO, Back East, Grey Sail, Lawson's. Not sure of the stores in that area though, sorry.

Beer'd is pretty close to Old Saybrook: http://beerdbrewing.com/. A couple breweries close in Brandford too (stony creek, Thimble Island, DuVig) they are OK. Stony Creek, great location/space, "ok" beer. Thimble has a few good brews, and same with DuVig. NEBCO and Two Roads are little farther away, but make some great stuff. SoS cans are hard to find, but if you look at the lawson's website and the SoS CT lookout thread you may get lucky http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/lawsons-sos-ct-lookout-thread.278317/
NEBCO has a forum too, could get lucky with some of their brews too...

Near Old Saybrook... Beer'd is probably 45 mins. Have hime go to Haddam a few towns north and go to Tony's. If he's lucky he can hit Steady Habit behind Tony's. Open on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks for all the responses. Just found out he's flying into new haven so any bottle shops around there are fair game for grabbing something to bring back. Any suggestions around that area?
