Howdy! I'm taking my first trip to Oregon later this month for the De Garde anniversary party. I'll be getting into town a few days early. Are there any other events going on during that week? What are the best brewery tours, bars, bottle shops, etc. I hope to visit Cascade, HOTD, The Commons, and Upright already. I would love some more options, places to eat (especially if they have a decent beer selection too) and places I should avoid.

Was thinking of visiting Block 15 in Corvallis as well. Are there any other can't miss or underrated breweries, bottleshops, or places to visit outside of Portland proper?

    Thanks in advance.

I am sure the forum will give you plenty of ideas regarding places to go, eat, enjoy, drink, etc...

(My vote would be a night in Bend by the way).

I am more interested in what i quoted above. I am curious to hear if there are any places that people would say to "avoid" I don't think we have really touched on that subject for Oregon here. I think we are just to damn nice.

    avoid fat head's.
avoid 10 barrel because they sold out.
    avoid rogue because rogue.
go to cascade but avoid buying bottles. refer to other $20+ bottles as "cascade pricing".
go to HOTD and avoid carbonation.

    did i get them all?

By "go to HOTD and avoid carbonation" I assume you mean "if you go to HOTD, by the transitive proporty, you will avoid carbonation"

Edit: I must have had a stroke when i wrote that last post. Your post has flooded back memories of all of those threads that we have pissed on.

yeah, you got it. it was a stretch, but i figure the NW forum is a smart bunch and they would understand what i was getting at.

and yeah, there's not much the NW pisses on, but when it finds a target...

    You missed one:
Avoid bad advice from Washingtonians posing as Oregonians

But in seriousness, I disagree with your assessment on Fat Heads. While their size and brand might be off-putting for some Portlanders, their beer is actually better than many other local breweries.

10 Barrel is putting out some tasty beers still because they got that In-Bev money but I can see why people would want to avoid them (more Cucumber Crush for me)

When is the de garde anny party and where do I find more info? You should definitely make a trip to b15 and would recommend hitting the May 2nd sticky hands release.

i've had a lot of the hyped california and vermont I/IPAs many times and i think sticky hands is up there. i would see if you can make a trip to bend and check out crux fermentation, boneyard, and ale apothecary (you have to email ahead of time for a tour)

Avoid Tugboat, but that's not hard really.
