Probably just closed for the winter. I don't know. Their website doesn't say much.

Logsdon always closes to the public for the winter because they are located in such a rural area where the roads are bad and it snows.

I've only been out there once, but aren't they they like 1/4 mile off Hwy 35, on the way to and from Meadows?

Yeah but if i remember correctly, there is no parking on the street and the road going up to the brewery is dirt. It just seems hazardous.

Maybe the close it in the winter because they don't get much visitors in the winter?

The farm is roughly a mile off 35. Neal Creek Road is paved, but the long, sorta steep driveway isn't. There's only a handful of houses on Neal Creek, so I imagine it's a fairly low priority road as far as plowing goes.

My suspicion is that David spends most of the winter visitng Belgium. His wife Judith is from there, and I've heard them talk about visiting frequently. Since her and Seaberg (native Icelander) pretty much run the tasting room it makes sense to close it for the off season and give them a chance to visit their families in Europe.

On an unrelated note, I'm glad their beer is better than their website. Other than a lack of animated gifs, it looks like some of the pages I designed back in the mid '90s.

The Google says it's more like 1/2 a mile.

Personally I'm totally fine if they want to spend the winter somewhere else, or if they just want to say it's not financially reasonable for them to open the tasting room for certain months. Just say that. "They are located in such a rural area where the roads are bad and it snows" is sort of bullshit though. And I'm not asserting they ever said that, just that that alone is not any good reason for them not to be open. Honestly, I'm sort of surprised they ever did enough business at the brewery to justify having a tasting room, but I'd rather people just be honest about their decision making process.

Ah, makes sense. I'll keep an eye on their site in the spring. We're visiting for Memorial Day weekend, so I guess I will plan on them being open and adjust if not.

Woah bro. Lets just take a step back - no need to get aggressive. This is beer.

Additionally, I think any reason is a good reason for them not be open. It's their brewery, they don't owe anyone a tasting room on any day. Acceptable reasons for closing may include:
    • Brewer public nudity during winter
    • Exclusive drum circling
    • Brewery is a safehouse
    • Its too hot
    • They don't feel like talking to people
    • They have to take a poop
    • Dogs playing poker photoshoot
    • They decided to start making cheese instead of beer
    • The decided to fill a kiddy pool with Seizoen instead of sell it
    • They decided to not allow anyone over 21 in the brewery
    • They locked themselves out
    • Its too cold
    • No bottle opener
    • Don't feel like doing dishes
    • Followed Russel Brand's advice to turn the brewery into Bhakti center
    • Decided that their beer was only worthy to be sold in Vermont
I think all of those are good reasons for them to decide if they want to close their farmhouse to the public.

"Maybe they're not really closed," he said, reaching for the binoculars again. "Maybe they're all in there right now. Just watching us watching them. Quiet. Hidden. Waiting to feed."

Plus, it's Elk Fishing season, and you've gotta hand-tie juuuust the right flies if you're gonna catch a big 'un. Not to mention it's the secret location of the Republic of Cascadia's Otter Team Six training center. And, this year the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is being shot in HR, and Logsdon's is site of the centerfold shoot. They need privacy for that.

I'll bring the body paint, so long as we're talking about Kate Upton and not David Logsdon. I am 54% certain that I could maintain the proper level of detached professionalism for the job, assuming no beer is involved.

    Edit: Make that 39%. A solid 39%.

Cool stuff - we'll be coming in from Charlotte NC the week of July 19. Looks like there's a beer festival going on that week in Portland!

To be honest, there is almost always a festival going on in Portland ; ). Though July is Oregon Craft Beer Month so there are a buttload mid June to mid August.

Sometimes, it seems like Portland IS a beer festival. Not that there's anything wrong with that .

Someone commented that upon moving to Portland, he felt like his life had become one ongoing beer vacation. Couldn't have said it better myself.

    hi friends!

im a portland native heading in to town tomorrow for a couple of days. i work in the industry and have the brewery friends i always visit (like cascade, gigantic, breakside) and am pretty well versed in the beer scene up there but its been a little over a year since ive been back!

i whole heartedly agree with the list on the front page but have i missed out on any recent openings that will blow my mind? brewery/public house/bar wise? i was thinking of seeing the new fatheads location. any new food places that are veg friendly with delicious beer? ill probably just get drunk at baileys and shanghai like normal but wouldn't mind a cool new suggestion!

Holiday Ale Fest starts Wednesday, so I'd suggest putting that on your agenda if nothing else.
