Skip the food at Solera. Agree with Double Mtn or pFriem for food. Solstice Wood Fired Pizza is also pretty good.

This. If you don't believe us, check their online bottle list. It's usually pretty up to date, so you really can't go wrong if you go here.

I'll definitely try to make it out there if I can. It's my wife's birthday trip though, so I'm trying my hardest to make it not appear like it's a beer bonanza (and failing).

If I don't make it out there, are there any decent bottle shops in Portland proper that i can pick up some de Garde?

Hard to say. If you can't make it out to Arch Bridge, then your best bet would be to go to one of the local Zupan's, New Seasons or Market of Choice. They tend not to get as much traffic as places like Belmont Station or Beermongers.

It's not as if Arch Bridge is located at the end of the earth. It's right off of I-205, and depending where you're coming from in Portland, it's no more than a 20 to 30 minute drive. Even if you're staying up by the airport, it would be a straight shot down I-205 to get there, and so no more than a 20 to 30 minute drive.

Ill but in Portland for the de Garde anniversary party in a couple weeks, looking for some good hikes that have trailed heads off the highway on the way to de Garde from Portland or some good hikes that are near the Tillamook area. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

there are several hike variants possible in the King's and Elk Mountain area, with trailhead parking just off the highway...

I'll second Kings and Elk Mtn. Also, University Falls can be done as a very short hike not far from the highway.

Wasn't able to make it out to Oregon City, but I ended up finding some of the De Garde Grande Rouge at a New Seasons. Stopped by Belmont Station and Beermongers and they didn't have any (but did have an awesome selection of other stuff).
As far as breweries go, got to try Double Mountain, Pfriem, Deschutes, Cascade, Hair of the Dog, and Commons. Cascade was so damn good. Got a bunch of tasters and enjoyed everything. I was a little underwhelmed at Deschutes but it was my fault for doing their standard taster before I realized I could pick them. The kriek at Double Mountain was pretty awesome and had an Dank IPA at Pfriem that was great.

Thanks for the tips and the info. We really enjoyed Portland and are already looking to get back there.

Ecliptic is a place we frequent. Best brewpub menu in Portland as it pertains to food. Their seasonal salad is almost always terrific. (And the beef or pork cheek, I forget which, curry over winter was fantastic.) I've always found the service to be good with two particular servers/bar keeps who I would say are top notch. The beer is extremely well made, though not necessarily "wow" life changing. (i.e. I would drink their beer every day and be happy without growing tired of it.) I really enjoy their barley wine as the case at home, less a few bottles, will attest.

There are far too many places for me to visit in 3 days :slight_frown:

Join the club. This is a chronic problem, even for those who live nearby and visit PDX frequently.

I'd say there are worse problems to have! Also trying to make sure that I don't just stop by each place, rush a drink and then move on to the next.

What I find to be a bigger problem, is having a difficult time breaking out of a comfortable routine. I like exploring, but on the other hand, I have literally a dozen favorite places in PDX that I feel are all pretty awesome.

For instance, every time I visit Bailey's Upper Lip or the Hop and Vine, I end up kicking myself for not stopping by more frequently. Yet to go there, means I have to forego a visit to HOTD, Growler Guys, Arch Bridge, the HorseBrass, Beermongers, Belmont Station, etc. It's tough having to make these kinds of decisions. :-)

Haven't been in a while, but the Lucky Lab used to have good happy hour prices on Tuesdays (Tightwad Tuesdays) and Mondays (Miser Monday's).

That being said, considering where you're coming from, I suspect you're going to be pretty content with the pricing in PDX, no matter where you go.

Funny you should mention that, as i've been going through my receipts and found this (yes, the best beers available...):
