I'm going to be visiting Seattle next month, and I was just wondering if anybody could recommend some local beers for me to try while I'm there; stuff that's not available in Ohio. I'm particularly partial to malty beers (especially barleywines), but I'm not averse to a creative IPA or something along those lines.
Try this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-seattle-spring-2015-update.275888/ or this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...bottled-beer-in-the-area.301749/#post-3748897 Sometimes it helps to scroll down the page a bit.
Our local breweries (of which there's so many I have not been able to keep up with trying them all) are generally fairly small and only distribute within our state. So the majority of stuff you see will be beer not available in Ohio. How long are you here for?
Just for a week. I actually lived in Seattle from 1995 to 1997, but back then the newest local breweries were Redhook and Pyramid. I know there have been a whole lot of breweries that have opened since then, and just wondered if there are some particular beers you can recommend I check out.
Where in Seattle are you staying? If you are here towards the end of July Black Raven should have their Splinters in bottles. Barrel aged strong scotch. Super tasty, especially if you let it mellow a couple months.
That thread really is a good resource Guajolote posted really is a great resource. To really maximize your time while here I'd suggest visiting a mixture of beer bars and breweries. Holy Mountain isn't listed as a must visit in that link, but to me it should be. They brew a ridiculously diverse range of beer, much of it is small, one off batches. They've got to be the current darlings of the beer scene and it's well deserved. As the thread said, Fremont, Black Raven and Reuben's are must visits. If you go to Reuben's there are several breweries within walking distance. I'd suggest looking on google maps at Reuben's and then in that same area search "breweries" to see what's nearby. There honestly seem to be more breweries popping up over there every day and I feel like I can't keep track of them all. Big Time Brewing may be up your alley. They release their Wheatwine in a couple days and it should be on tap still when you get here. A personal favorite of mine is Machine House. You said you like malty, and they do traditional English styles so think sessionable, balanced and all served on cask. Their space is pretty cool too. Chuck's in Greenwood (taplist @ http://chucks85th.com/) is a great beer bar, with a massive bottle selection you can take to go and I think around 40 taps. A bonus if you visit is they're within walking distance of Naked City (brewpub and beer bar ... probably a worthy stop on it's own taplist @ https://nakedcitybrewing.com/beer/tap-list), The Yard Cafe (maybe 15 taps, but all usually very good taplist @http://theyardcafe.com/#beer ), and perhaps by the time you get here Flying Bike (our brand new co-op brewery). For beer bars I also really like The Pine Box (http://pineboxbar.com/) and The Wurst Place. Those suggestions should keep you busy! Other beer bars I love are The Pine Box
OP, when will you be here? Looks like we're having a BA bottle share on 7/12, you would be very welcome to join us.
