I'll be heading over to Germany this fall and was wondering whether anyone had any good recommendations for websites or beer blogs that cover Germany (Bavaria/Franconia/Munich, Berlin, Cologne, etc). Though I'd prefer to travel light, I'm open to book recs as well. Cheers!
I would recommend taking a look at this thread, as it's pretty much exacly about what you're asking. I live in Cologne and my personal recommendations would be Päffgen, Malzmühle and Peter's for Kölsch breweries, Lommerzheim for a typical "Kölsche Kneipe", Braustelle for a microbrewery and Craftbeer Corner Coeln and Delirium Cafe for craft beer bars. Here's a blog post.
This site is a little awkward to navigate and covers many different regions but there is good info to be found if you dig around a little bit: http://biertravel.com/ The map of Franconian breweries might be of particular interest to you: http://biertravel.com/franconian-brewery-map/
Another map of Franconian breweries -- but it is a little out of date, been busy with other sites: http://www.bambergbeerguide.com/bigmap.php
I'm too lazy to read the thread Snowcrash000 posted. But there are several books I recommend (and they have related websites and apps). One is Boris Brauns "Brauerei Atlas Franken" book. Map included. https://www.brauereiatlas.de/ App on Google Play Store (as I recall, I paid a small fee) Bastian Böttner & Markus Raupach have a couple of great books. One is "Die schönsten Bierkeller und Biergärten in Franken (with map). The other is "Bier aus Bayern" Bavarian Beer Guide. It also comes with a map. https://www.bier.by App on Google Play Store And I have always enjoyed The Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich by Larry Hawthorne. I think I have most of the editions. https://www.bookdepository.com/ has (had?) these books at good prices, and free shipping.
Does it help to say I know tons, but they're all in German? Ron Pattinson has written a decent, though somewhat dated review of places.
