A new one from Westbrook was just released at the brewery today, Raver's Extra Ripe Old Ale (I believed named after one of BA's own). An old ale aged in bourbon, red wine, and apple brandy barrels, with Brettanomyces added. And it is delicious.

Available now at the brewery if anyone is interested.

Confirmed named after a BA. Sounds insanely good.

Named after a miserable asshole.

Shane (Shane's Big DIPA) and I brewed this before the BAMC release last year. It is supposed to be a take on the original old ales, which were brewed in England in the late 1800's. There was some difficulty in controlling bugs back then, and the old ales would naturally pick up some wild stuff from the barrels they aged them in. Our version is a simple English Old Ale base, fermented with English Ale yeast. It was then transferred to barrels with a healthy addition of brett. I believe it was in the barrels for 14 months, and the barrels were a mixture of second use BAMC barrels and fresh 4 Roses barrels.

Whats the flavor like? Anything like Funky Old Time?

Not really. Old Time was a much higher gravity beer, while this one started lower and finished on the med dry side. The only comparable beer I have had is the New Glarus Old Ale. I don't believe NG ages their version in barrels, so that makes things a little different.

I'm just one person but I found this new one to be way better than Funky Old Time.

I tried this last evening and thought it was really good. It was worth bringing home some bottles to enjoy now and later.

I'm interested in this one, just trying to figure out what is fair to offer up for two bottles. What's the price?
