So I just started putting together my cellar this weekend. I've got some holdover Boulevard Love Childs that seem to be a good start to sours. Planning on picking up some Goose Island Matilda. Just curious what people thought was easy an accessible beer. I'm in KC. Was thinking of starting with stouts/barleywines in addition to above sours:

    1. Old rasputin barrel aged
    2. Oskar Blues 10 Fidy
    3. New Holland Dragons Milk
    4. Founders Old Curmudgeon and Imperial Stout
    5. Deschuttes Black Butte- My local beer store has 26, 27, and 28. Figure I will at least try a vertical before cellaring. Not sure how porter will work but it has high ABU

There are a few I read about but can't seem to find. Are these hard to get or just out of season?
    Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and Narwhal
    Deschuttes The Abyss

Also do the Sierra Nevada Trip in the Woods age? I've got Narwhal, Ginger Bigfoot, Biere De Garde. (These are not cheap but looked fun)

A toast to you for all the help!

My bottle shop has Narwhal and I've seen a lot of ppl say Abyss is on shelves (Though I haven't seen it). What you have listed as your easy find cellar beers are pretty good pics. I cellar similar beers. Maybe expand on some of the ones you have mentioned? Founder Breakfast stout has almost a whole shelf in my cellar, along with Backwoods Bastard.

The porter should store just fine.

Stone IRS and Lindemans Cuvee Rene are both inexpensive cellerable beers

Epic Big bad Baptist is a good one....although I haven't had it aged yet. I just started adding it to my holdings. Think I have batch 70 and 71....

Expedition Stout is a great one to age. I have also found that the BIG Dogfish Head beers age great as well. I've had a 5 year old World Wide Stout and a 6 year old Fort and both were delicious and could have aged even longer. I am currently trying to get some more WWS to start aging it again. The ABV is too high to be sold here so I'm gonna have to trade for it. The Avery stouts like Uncle Jacobs and Tweak would be great to age as well. I realize these aren't so "cheap" and not sure how easy they may be for you to find, but they all will age beautifully and aren't considered "whales" and do see wide distribution.

Bell's Expedition Stout. I wish I could give some input on how it ages, but I only started my vertical a couple years ago with 2 six packs each year. Bell's says on their site that Expedition (and Third Coast old ale) ages indefinitely, so that might be a good place to start.

Old rasputin barrel aged is not cheap or easy to find. It is over $20.00 a 500ml bottle

This is definitely the time of year to be thinking about cellaring beers. Lots of great stuff being released.

I always try to snag a few of the following:
    - Stone Xocoveza
    - Founder's B'fast Stout
    - Founder's Backwood Bastard
    - Oskar Blues Ten Fidy
    - Sierra Nevada Narwhal
    - Avery Rumpkin
    - Avery Pump(KY)n

Just to pocket one of each from each year - to me - will be pretty significant after 4-5 years.

That said, there are always a couple special things hitting the market around this time of year. To name a few specific to 2016:
    - Founder's Lizard of Koz
    - Oskar Blues BBA Ten Fidy
    - Prairie Christmast BOMB!
    - Sierra Nevada BBA Narwhal
    - BCBS

(I've got one of each of the Deschutes Abyss variants from last year - Rye Whiskey & Cognac - that I'm especially proud of!)

Keep an eye on social media for the breweries you enjoy specifically. They often do their big releases around this time of year. If you stock up and save, then come next year you'll have a great cellar to build off of. CHEERS!

Had a 2014 Saison Dupont with Thanksgiving Dinner. It was awsome. Love the green bottle dupont. A little light struck character adds to the complexity for sure.
