Paulaner Wiesn (left) and Marzen (right). The Wiesn was better chilled, but the Marzen shined when it warmed.

White Elm Brewing Co. -- Stone The Crow (Gold Wax)
Blend of barleywines aged for two years in port and bourbon barrels
ABV: 14.0%; pouring temperature: 43°F; bottling info: gold wax
    Source: Tavour

    3.99/5 rDev -2.4%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 3.75

Dark, clear brown pour with sediment towards the end of the bottle; opaque dark brown body; thin head, essentially a thin, lasting ring around the edge of the glass interior. Very nice scent; dark grains and chocolate notes laced with boozy aromas. Outstanding taste; milk chocolate; bourbon; a touch of white oak; light tannins; hint of red wine. Heavy body; viscous pour; smooth and slightly chewy; balanced boozy warmth and heat.

No listing for the ABV on the bottle or brewery's web site, but Tavour does list it as 14.0%. Overall, this is a very nice barrel aged barleywine. It doesn't go overboard with the barrel aging aspects, the base beer kind of playing the overall tune.

...drinking this one vicariously for Oscar (aka 'Thundering Rodent') who had eight teeth pulled yesterday...poor little schmuck...at least he's acting like his old self today...he's a touch little son of a bitch...

Happy Wednesday BAs! Today I'm drinking a Milk Chocolate Stout from Brock Street Brewing Co. in Whitby, Ontario. It's a decent sweet stout - cheers!

    1) Phase Three Rule Of Thirds (7.7% canned 7/10/24): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Mosaic & Nelson for flavors of white grape, snappy passionfruit, zesty citrus and tropical berries.
    versus
    2) Phase Three Spring Road (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from Chicago with Nelson Sauvin, Citra, & Vic Secret for flavors of grapefruit, orange citrus, and tropical white grape. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Happy Wednesday BeerAdvocates. Time for a Phase Three IPA Battle.
First is Rule Of Thirds. My personal favorite hop combination of Citra, Mosaic, and Nelson. Plus being from Phase Three. This is World-Class.
Next is Spring Road, a newer release. Similar hops but with Vic Secret instead of Mosaic. Similar, but can detect more of the passionfruit, pineapple and citrus rind and less tropical blueberries. Fresh and the DDH gives it a bite. Outstanding as well.
Slight win to Rule Of Thirds here, but it's close. These Phase Three IPAs are killing it.

I was at Kane on Sunday and had some really tasty beers but did not post any photos. Here's me enjoying a little bit of 4745. The best beer of the night was Casino Pier, but their cans had recently sold out.

I didn't buy too much to take with me, but I did snag some cans of Jumping Rainbows. Delicious stuff and perfect for the current weather outside.

Old Head - Detroit Liquid Ventures - Detroit, MI - Milk Stout - 5%

This beer has a nice dry roasted flavor. Good dark chocolate notes to this beer. It is delicious, and I'm so happy to have had the chance to try it. I gave it a 3.75 over at UT.
