Going to focus on clearing many cellar beers this Winter during the week, here is the first of the year.

New Glarus R & D Vintage 2017



Full Cellar Review treatment in our thread in the 2026 Cellaring / Aging Beer Folder Thread. Bottom line, I drank this first in 2022 about three years after bottling after cellaring in the basement, and this is consistent with my review notes after refrigerating this remaining bottle since. Need to return for my second trip to New Glarus when the weather is nicer.

Really enjoyed following your 12 Days posts — they’ve been genuinely warm and thoughtful in a way that goes beyond just ticking beers off a list. It’s refreshing to see something that feels reflective and human while still staying rooted in beer.

As someone with Italian heritage, the stretch from Christmas through Epiphany has always meant something special to me. In Italy, that final night is tied to the story of La Befana — a folkloric figure who, after turning away the Wise Men and a shepherd, later sets out bearing gifts in hopes of finding the Christ Child. Each year, she flies through the night before Epiphany, leaving small gifts behind, still searching. It’s a story about humility, kindness, and intention — themes that fit the season surprisingly well.

Seeing a fellow American embrace the full arc of the holiday — faith, tradition, and good beer included — really resonated with me. It’s a reminder that these customs aren’t about heritage alone, but about meaning and care.

You’ve also inspired me to hope that one day I’d love to experience the 12 Days of Christmas (or more) from Italy itself and share it from there. Thanks again for putting this series out, and I’m looking forward to your Epiphany post.

A new NA brew for me - as the dry month continues with this first full week....this is really tasty - can says "brewed in Canada" - any one have an idea who is brewing this for Rhinegeist?

Waiting for the temperature to hit 60, so I can walk the dogs.

 

Today, it's cool but mild, sunny and otherwise very beautiful, out here in McGregor--and both cats Gracie and Sundae were very curious to see what three new beers were coming my way: First, with Sundae, it's my seventh brew from Ottawa, Ontario's Beyond the Pale Brewing Company--their 6.5% Mullet Belgian Style IPA...
