Easily TRANSIENT stouts, Junie with the chocolate chunks in it and the caramel chunks in it was fabulous. I was licking the glass quite literally getting every little nib out. Not hints of chocolate, not hints of caramel, but actual chocolate and Caramel. Yum, thanks Mike. Worth killing for, how it flys so low under the radar is a mystery.

Besides what's already been mentioned, I'll add three more porter and stout brewers:

    Fuller's
    Harvey's
    Duck Rabbit

ChicagoJ, Bitterbill, SABERG and 4 others like this.

    Can't name JUST one, so from the ones I've had;
    1. Founders
    2. Goose Island BCBS
    3. Prairie
    4. Central Waters
    5. White Elm
    6. Oskar Blues
    7. Boulevard
    8. Kuhnhenn
    9. Hubbard's Cave
    10. Avery
    11. Omnipollo
    12. Surly
    13. WoodGrain (local)
Toppling Goliath KBBS and their other high-end BA stouts might be epic, but they've evaded me because of their artificially limited production. TG could make a fortune by gathering enough unicorn hairs to actually distribute some of their epic beers.

This beer was first introduced last year as a draft only product and those beers were what I would describe using the words "very rich". I could drink one (in the glass depicted above) and I was done. In contrast my wife absolutely loved those beers and she would order multiple glasses of that beer. For 2020 they decided to bottle this beer (because of the pandemic and lockdowns?) and I personally prefer these beers; the 2020 bottled version was less rich and a bit drier in the finish. I drank multiple bottles in a row.

Perhaps you would prefer the draft version better?

    Cheers!

For me Firestone is a no brainer. Sierra Nevada and Deschutes are excellent too. I'm going to throw in North Coast for Old Rasputin, and Anchor for their porter. OK, it's a porter, not a stout, but fuck it, I'm sick of that argument.

Looking over my reviews it appears that my TOP brewer for the style is drumroll dahdahdahdahdahdahdah Perennial - Abraxas, Intentionally Indulgent, Sump. I've also rated many of Trilliums stouts quite highly and don't think they've been mentioned.

I will say all time dark beer favorite is a gun-fight between HF Everett porter and Side Project Derivation....obviously quite different but each equally incredible for their respective styles.

Old School Throwback - What about Clown Shoes?!

For a straight up Stout, you can't do much better than Snake River Zonker Stout but Snake River is not known for brewing a bunch of Stouts.

My wife brought me a can of it and a bottle of Le Serpent (2012) (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/179/58574/), when they were in WY several years ago. Both were outstanding!

Narwhal was spot on this year. In fact I just spotted some at the local Safeway. It would be wise of me to go down a pick up a 2nd sixer.

I have not had the pleasure of drinking Side Project but I am a HUGE fan of Hill Farmstead Everett.

I had my version of a "gun-fight" which I discussed in a past NBS thread:

My homebrewed version came pretty darn close.

    Cheers!

If it is cans then I believe that is the barrel aged version. I don't think they've canned the regular narwhal.

And I agree with @deanzaZZR , this years narwhal is excellent fresh
