Unlabelled 330 mL bottle with a neck tag, included in their holiday mixed 4-pack which is currently available at the LCBO. Best before July 2017 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy straw-yellow colour, with one finger of impressively resilient, creamy white foam situated atop. 5 minutes later, its level has barely moved at all - excellent head retention, with some nice lace generated when it eventually does seep off. The aroma consists of grainy, doughy, wheaty pale malts, with hints of butterscotch, pepper, clove, bubblegum, mandarin orange and mango. An intriguing combination; spicy, herbal and more than a bit yeasty.
Not bad. The flavour starts off quite grainy, with a crackery, doughy wheat malt sweetness that is soon joined by hints of citrus zest, red apple skin and apricot. It gets a bit more spicy/herbal on the back end - I don't know exactly which "spices and botanicals" were added to this beer, but I'm leaning towards clove, coriander and perhaps white pepper. Finishes with notes of yeast and bubblegum, with some herbal notes lingering into the aftertaste. Light in body, with soft carbonation for a saison - it feels wet and smooth on the palate, but it's a little on the flat side. Easy enough to toss back - the herb profile isn't really my thing, but the low abv ensures that this brew remains quite drinkable anyway.
Final Grade: 3.72, a decent B grade. Sometimes, during the course of a review, a beer will grow on me... but I&G's Secret Saison sort of did the opposite. The more I drank, the more the herbal flavours rubbed me the wrong way, and the less I could see myself wanting to find and drink another bottle. Don't get me wrong: I didn't mind this beer, but I don't think I'd seek it out again in the future - there are just too many excellent saisons out there to settle for this one. Even though my feelings are mixed, I'm still glad to see that this brewery is at least trying something different.

"A secret beer, made exclusively for you. Brewed with Pale and Munich malts, finished with a blend of spices and botanicals complimenting the zesty citrus fruit flavours."
