What I had: Carton Something Like Sandy and Sixpoint Mad Scientist Series Graetzer on tap, Cape Ann Fisherman’s Pick Ale on cask, sample of Port Jeff Fresh Hop Ale, a few white wines for my girl, beer nuts to snack on.
What I liked: Dark and dingy vibe works well with the arcade theme, lots of schwag available, very good style variation on the draught list, friendly bartender made great recos and was happy to provide samples, had a fun time blasting away outlaws while quaffing our drinks, prices are reasonable for the area.
What I disliked: Like many NYC bars they don’t serve food, but we snagged some pizza slices nearby so it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Would I go back? Yes. This was the best bar that we visited in Brooklyn. Worth a crawl whether you’re a beer geek, gamer, or both.

Came here once just for the video games. Just as well, because in my hour and a half I don't think I spoke to anyone who worked here.

The video games are worth a separate review, but they're the real draw.

Glancing up occasionally at the beer list it seemed great, lots of weird, offbeat choices. Too bad I never got the inclination to approach what seemed like chilly staff.

I'd go back here if I was with a group.

The selection is fantastic here. I never tried the cocktails or food (do they really serve food? Maybe, but I never noticed.) But the beers are great, for a decent price. And of course the retro games and atmosphere are fun. Just beware of how crowded it gets on weekends.

It's a bar that's also an arcade. Get it? What more is there to say?

Fine. I can say a bit more. They have good prices on great beer (most beers are $6, many beers have over 90 on Beer Advocate. They've even had Bourbon County Stout on draft a few times!). I believe happy hour runs 7 days a week. Happy hour means beers are $1 cheaper. Marble Madness is a really fun game but I don't really want to promote it because I like how no one's ever playing it when I go there. It's also impossible to beat by level 4. Anyway, this place gets super crowded pretty early on Friday and Saturday nights, but during the day and during the week, it's a great, spacious place to chill out.

I come here 9 out of 10 times I'm in Williamsburg. You should too.

Hipster heaven! The wife and I decided to check out Barcade, one of the few Williamsburg-area beer bars we hadn't explored yet. I was lured by Bourbon County online but they did not have it tapped at the moment. Bummer.

The joint sits in a fancified part of Bklyn with lots of new condos. The exterior belies how cavernous Barcade really is inside. Coming from Manhattan, I was quite stunned at the amount of real estate here. Took me a while to figure out that Barcade stand for bar+arcade. D'oh! The wife had fun revisiting old games from the 80's; me, I didn't know a single one.

24 taps and a cask, including 2 exclusive drafts (one was out, Sixpoint Bolshoi). Lots of Bell's beers, such as Expedition, Java and Cherry as it coincided with the arrival of the brewery in NYC. Also Allagash Red Howes, Climax Cherry Snow Plow, Stone Matt's, a couple of Sixpoint brews... quite alright but not amazing, so I went for a bourbon (Blanton's rules)

Service was classic W'burg hipster: that I-am-standing-right-in-front-of-you-not-giving-a-fuck-and -talking-to-my-friends-because-I-am-a-hipster-bartender attitude. Thank goodness for yoga or I would slap one of these tenaciously annoying, cooler-than-thou folks.

Not bad prices, great atmosphere. But other than that, I much prefer Mug's, dba, Torst and other beer bars in the area.

I have visited Barcade numerous times over the years since they opened - in fact, I celebrated a birthday and my bachelor party there shortly after they first opened and have continued to visit at least once or twice each year since then... Not exactly in my neighborhood so I only visit when I'm close by (the Barcade in Jersey City is much closer for me and easier to commute to). I love the vibe - good craft beer, reasonable prices, and 1980s arcade games...lots of nostalgia factor for me here.

The beers are generally well poured into proper glassware for the style and served with an appropriate amount of head. Beers seem to turn over fairly quickly so I have never had a beer that did not taste fresh and with the number of different events they host, it changes a lot.

For the most part, the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers.

One of the things I like best about the selection is that it is kept up to date on the website so I know what is going to be available when I head to Barcade - they usually have a pretty good selection across a number of different styles and I seem to always find something that I enjoy.

I have only had the chips/pretzels/jerky when I have been here so I am not going to rate the food.

Prices are reasonable.

Final stop on a Brooklyn pub crawl.

A - A mix of gamers and craft beer drinkers with a touch of hipsters. And yet, these were all the same people. A funky out of the box concept that beckons to your youth if you grew up in the 80's.

Q - While the pours were all good, the chalkboard was a bit disorgainzied and the laminated tap list I got was a couple strikes on the first 2 things I ordered and they were out of. But glassware was correct and overall it worked out.

Ser - Made recommendations for what I should try. For a busy bar these folks were quick which was appreciated.

Sel - Great selection and plenty of options. I'm taking a little off the score as my first 2 choices were out when I ordered them. Would have made sense to update the chalkboard...

V - A little pricey because the pours on a few were 8-10oz. Now they do tell you that on their board so I wasn't surprised ahead of time. But I've seen better pricing for the same selections in Brooklyn.

A great novelty and fun to relive your childhood with beer, but I wouldn't make this a regular option if I lived close enough.

They have a great selection of rotating craft beers on tap, 24 taps in total I believe. The workers all seem to know what they're talking about and have knowledge on all the beers, and have no problem giving out tastings. They frequently have nights hosted by specific breweries where they take over the taps, for instance just recently I went for the Founders night and got my hands on CBS, Bolt Cutter, Curmudgeon's Better Half, the list goes on, even got to talk to one of the main guys from Founders about all the beers which was great. There's also, as the name implies, an array of old classic video games, including Marble Madness lining the walls, all running on quarters just like the old days. They don't serve food, but it's Brooklyn, there's good food all over. All in all it's a great place, a mix of the old and the new. I've gone here 3 or 4 times and will definitely go again.

Best selection of craft beer I have ever seen in a public establishment. I happened to catch a happy hour (running until 8:00 PM), which meant nearly everything was available in a 10 oz pour for $5.00-$6.00 ..which may not sound cheap, but is almost stealing in the context of NYC. The service was quick and attentive, which usually isn't a given if you're a guy, and/or over 30. The drafts for the night/week are up on the to be expected blackboard, but these were also printed out and left on the bar in case you were looking for a bit of a description....a nice touch since most of the brews available were new to me.

Lots on tap and lots of classic video games from the early 80s, and at 80s prices, which is also a rarity for any place that has them. Not much in the way of food, although some chips and jerky were on hand, so eat elsewhere beforehand if you're really hungry.

Not the fanciest establishment, but excellent for what it offers. They had a couple of wines (1 red, 1 white) on-hand for my wife, who isn't much of a beer drinker. Was good to see a decent-sized crowd coming in, and most of the games were in good working order. Definitely a place I would visit again...would love see something like this closer to where I live (CT). Just leave your BMC-loving friends at home...I have to say they won't enjoy this place if they are looking for "real" beer (don't laugh too hard).

The best beer bar in New York City, right in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Amazing selection, featuring TONS of local Brooklyn, Westchester, and upstate brews....Here I've tried some of the best experimental beers Brooklyn, Sixpoint and Captain Lawrence have to offer.

Plus the entire bar is lined with functional, old school VIDEO GAMES??? How can you go wrong? This place fulfills every one of my hopes, dreams, and desires.

Had my 30th birthday party here and it was a smash success with beer drinkers and non-brewheads alike. Can't recommend this place enough.

This place is amazing.

Old warehouse type building, long and dark with a bar on the right when you walk in, and the walls are lined with about 30 Vintage stand up arcade games. I saw Q-Bert, Frogger, Robotron, Tapper, among others.

Quality of beers was very good. Saw Sixpoint, Founders, quite a few New Holland (must have had an event for their beers recently) and other fine craft offerings.

Service was prompt and friendly.

Selection was nice, about 30 quality and varied taps.

No food except some snack stuff.

Overall, a great place for beers, and if you like old video games then it's just icing on the cake. Loved this place.

Simply the best! I pass it every day on my way home from work.

They have an awesome frequently rotating list of American beers and arcade games (dont rotate as much.) Atmosphere is great in the afternoon when its not to crowded and you can bring dogs. Weekend nights can get busy but still a great time. They have tons of great beer events like vintage night! Happy hours on Sat. and Sun too.

They have a chalkboard that lists hi-scores for the games and let me tell you they are ridiculous. I thought I was good at Tapper, Galaga, and Marble Madness but not even close to whats on the board. I hear the guy that has the Tapper record was playing for 7 hours!

I only wish they had a few newer arcade games like x-men. Also, if they brought in pinball and foosball I would never leave.

Classic arcade games + great craft beer, what more could you want? The selection of both at Barcade Brooklyn is admirable, though only the beer list is updated regularly. :)

Gets crowded during peak times and service suffers a little when it's packed, but I avoid peak hours so it's not a big deal. Draft list is consistently solid, and tap lines appear to be cleaned regularly. Convenient location with plenty of great food choices nearby. Not to mention Spuyten Duyvil within walking distance!

You'll never hear me gripe about a trip to Barcade; I love this place.

Stopped in right after Spuyten Duyvil and was was immediately amazed at the amount of old school arcade games that line the perimeter of the place. Wasn't too crowded when we arrived at around 8pm, so it wasn't too loud yet. But the dim lighting, hearing of video games and craft beer selection all gave for a great vibe. Only one bartender at first during the early evening, but she was great. Knew exactly what beer you were talking about and didn't hesitate to pour. Crazy selection here, something like 25 different taps. Was hard to choose, but ultimately ordered Sixpoint Sweet Action and Stone Old Guardian. Delicious stuff here.

You can drink your beer and play video games at the same time as there are slim tables for you to place your glass. Amazing. A geek's dream, for sure. A great place to hang out and spend some hours in. Only a few walking blocks away from Spuyten Duyvil too.

Been here several times, definitely one of the most chill beer spots in the city.

Great beers + Old school video games is such a match made in heaven its amazing that they're arent more places like this. (besides Barcade Jersey City lol)

One of the best things about this bar is that they have a great spread of different styles with the popular offerings you'd want at a craft bar (Sculpin, Beer Geek Breakfast, Allagash Odessey, etc) and always something great on cask.

~20 tap lines and service is always fast, even when its crowded. Typically Im there on Saturday nites and its crowded but you can usually find a place to post up which is key.

Possibly best prices and overall selection in the area. Not as many European offerings as Spuyten, but sick American craft offerings.

Got to try Rogue Charlie 1981 there, which was cool because sometimes you get to a point when you're deep into beer where its hard to go out and be able to try something you've never had, I've been able to do this each of the 3X I've gone here.

Oh, and the games are sick too, Mike Tyson Punch Out, Contra, any retro game you can think of. All they're missing is NBA JAM.

Great spot, beers and games, check it out.

Made my second visit to Barcade earlier this month
Saturday afternoon session and the place was pretty packed
Happy hour is $5 for all of the (24) draft beers and although advertised as 5pm to 8pm, we purchased our first round at 4.30pm and were charged 20 bucks for 4 pints - bonus !!!

The cask beer was in excellent condition (honestly can't remember what it was), but a hoppy number for sure and the barman knew how to serve it correctly, not always the case in some bars!

A good selection on draft with a large number (15 or 16) from New York state or New England states micro breweries

Service was good bearing in mind there was only one barman working and the place was busy, but he was prone to serving regulars first who had clearly rolled up at the bar after us, a pet hate of mine!

The arcade games (30+) still operate on quarters, so cheap drinks, cheap games (if that floats your boat) and good fun all round!

I am more into the beer aspect than the video game aspect, but I do love the beer here! I suppose, it's not that I don't like old video games, but I want to concentrate on the excellent beer I am having more than playing video games, but that's just me. On to the beer...

Happy hour is a great deal, 1 dollar off, making my beers 5 bucks plus tip. They had Founder's Imperial Stout ( major nerd points) and Firestone Walker's Double Jack DIPA, amazing, on my last trip. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly with the samples. He enjoyed a little beer nerd chat which I always enjoy at as beer spot. I hate being treated like a jerk if I want to nerd out and certainly that was not the case here.

The beer selection is large , comprehensive, and on my last trip, impressive. My girlfriend had an Allagash Dubbel which was awesome. I will certainly come back for the beer, along with Mugs, the best beer in the Williamsburg area and maybe the best. I appreciate this place.

this bar is a lot of fun. i didn't know what exactly to expect, a 20 tap rare selection bar with old school arcade games???? well, it rocks. the atmosphere is really layed back, surrounded by mostly people who appreciate good beer, some folks who just wanna party and play games, and other folks who are on dates. anyways, the selection of beers is equalled by the selection of throw-back, "i haven't played this game since i was 6" 80's arcade games. i was locked on donkey kong, ghosts n goblins, and most of all, PUNCH-OUT! I'll get you bald bull! they even have a board where they list all the top scores. when ur not deep in 80s gaming glory, the bar and bartenders are real great. they'll treat you good, even gave me a free brew after only a couple. just a great overall place with awesome beer, awesome people, and awesome games. good stuff.

Great atmosphere for a jeans and t-shirt night out. Taking what looks like an old auto garage and gutting it. The walls are lined with vintage video games but the tables and chairs could use some work.

Great selection of beers most nights with sixpoint, Brooklyn, Chelsea normally represented. There is usually a few great curveballs on draft as well. They had Southern Tier Mochka last time I was there, what a great beer.

Service is good but nothing exceptional just rock solid bar service.if you want good service get there early on the weekend as it gets crowded later in the night.

Barcade is a tale of 2 bars. On a weekday night, there is no better place to be than barcade. The huge space, old games, and amazing selection of tappers and casks makes it an ideal spot to hang-out. On a weekend night, the place is packed to unreasonable levels with teeming hipsters (which, to a hipster ... is about the worst thing for a bar to be packed with). A tuesday/wednesday evening is the ideal time to hit-up barcade.

A: Billy-berg gentrification sheik at it's finest.

Q: This would be a 5, if they didn't have Off-Road and other amazing games in the back left-corner of the bar, piled-up and broken, taunting you with their amazingness ... yet unplayable.

S: Barmen are great, if you're local and regular. After 10 or 20 visits, you get amazing service ... first 5 or so times ... be ready to wait. Welcome to Brooklyn.

F: I'm pretty sure they don't have a kitchen, or any food.

V: By New York standards, this place is cheap, by Brooklyn standards, it's reasonable. Cheaper than Macri Park down the block, more expensive than Duck Duck in the triangle (between bushwick/williamsberg/bed-stuy).

Brooklyn brewery, captain lawrence and six-points all do tastings and events here periodically ... worth a look.

This place is serious, do not miss out. If you are any where near Brooklyn get your ass to Barcade. One of my favorite places in the world.

They are constantly hosting special events with the most insane lineups. I've had ridiculous vintages, drank out of a pumpkin, and some of the best casks all under this amazing roof.

You cant beat the environment and arcade setting. Couldn't be easier to get to on the subway from Manhattan. You need to go go go to this place. Do not die before reliving your childhood(with a cold beer)!

Stopped by here during a recent trip to Brooklyn.

Barcade is basically a big open room which is very dark with a large bar on the right and a bunch of classic arcade games lining the walls. Above the bar is the tap list which is usually very impressive and on the oppsite wall is a chalkboard with the video game high scores.

This place has a really cool vibe and as a lover if video games(especially classics like Mrs. Pacman, Tapper, Marble Madness, etc.) I really loved this place. The crowd seems to be a bit younger and the place is filler with hipsters. Expect a lot of beards, tight t shirts and skinny jeans. They allow dogs as well which is a nice touch.

The selection here is quite impressive and hey often have special events. I've been there for a Sixpoint event as well as a Brooklyn promo. They have about 25 taps with revolving selection of craft beers at reasonable prices.

The service at this place is puzzling. The last rime I was there thenplace was packed and it was a Friday Night. They only had one bartender which was odd but he managed to take care of everyone pretty quickly considering the crowd.

Overall, I would highly recommend this bar to anyone in or visiting the NYC/Brooklyn area.

Atmosphere-old dive bar, warehouse feel, lots of wood, bar is nice, all draft based with chips for food. Of course the machines are cool, I really like the wood panels in between the machines to rest your beer on.

Quality-nice mix of local (Sixpoint, Brooklyn, etc.) with some good travellers like Victory and Stoudt's, all beers served well. Maybe a little expensive at $6 a pint, but quality is good.

Service-bartenders are no-nonsense, but beers were served right. One did a nice job of breaking up a fight.

Selection-see above, again nice mix of local and outliers.

Food-nothing but chips and jerky, good munchies.

Value-beers are somewhat expensive, games are a quarter apiece.

One last thing, this bar had the potential to be incredible in terms of the arcade scene, but while the games are cheap the vast majority have some sort of control issue, I wish they were better about that. Reduced what could have been amazing to something that was fun once but one I probably won't seek out again.

This has got to be one of the coolest ideas I've come across; old-school video games and beer. A few blocks from the other great spots in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn (DBA, Mugs and Brooklyn Brewery) this place has got character and style.

Inside, much of the bar looks like a dive bar with irregular lighting, opinionated bartenders and eclectic furniture. The very idea of ordering a North Coast Old Rasputin and then playing a game of Ghosts and Goblins strikes me as awesome.

Many of the beers on the tap menu were local/regional including: Brooklyn Brewery EIPA, BSC and Brewmaster's Reserve, Kelso, Sixpoint, Cooperstown and Captain Lawrence. Other breweries represented included: Bear Republic, Long Trail, Climax and Spaten.

I could have spent hours at this place, but it was the last of our spots and so my capacity to handle a few pints was greatly compromised and I had to take it slow.

This Brooklyn bar is a personal favorite of mine. For starters it was one of the first bars that pushed me over the edge from being a part time to a full time craft beer fan and drinker. This is a great place to hang out, listen to some good tune, play arcade classics and try out some great American craft beers.

Upon entering one can see this bar was converted out of an old garage/warehouse space so there is plenty of room to move around or mingle. To your right when you walk in is the bar and keg fridge. There are 25 taps (including Cask and Nitro) all American craft, no imports, no bottles. Some wine (I think maybe just a red and white offering), a full bar (liquor) and snacks for the non beer drinker or the really hungry. The walls above the bar are covered in chalkboard on which the beer is listed. Above that are some windows into the keg fridge with Anchor and Sierra Nevada neon beer lights in them.

When you sit at the bar you will find a print out detailing all the brew on tap, including description, ABV, and origin. The staff is also very friendly and helpful as I have watched them time and again help macro drinkers who have no clue what to order. At busier points during the weekend the staff may not have time for small talk but seeing them move quickly around the bar, serving people promptly and accurately is impressive.

There is no television in this bar (I am not counting the unplugged Zenith in the corner) but the walls are lined all the way around with classic arcade games. It's a quarter to play any game and there is a quarter dispenser on the end of the bar so don't worry about loading up beforehand. You can find me frequenting a few favorites: Tapper, Dig Dug, Frogger, Mrs. Pacman, and Contra. Keep in mind when its crowded certain games are harder to get to so you will have to wait your turn. The music is generally pretty good (classic rock, 80's, punk, post punk, alternative, etc. etc.) although most of it I can't identify.

This place won't crush your wallet as all video games are a quarter, the beers are $5 and $6 and there is a great variety as the tap list changes quite often (especially during the weekends). They also have $1 off happy hour every day, and keep an eye out on Thursday nights as they will have special events focusing on certain brewers.

Overall this is a great bar, and one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys good craft beer or video games.
