Doesn't taste much on the initial sip, but has a really bitter IPA-like aftertaste. Very mediocre. Though I love Wisby beers normally. Lacks any deep flavor. It's just not much there. Feels high quality and crisp though. But a bit dissapointing for being WIsby.

Had Wisby Pils in June 2017 aboard the SF700, the Destination Gotland ferry from Nynäshamn to Visby, poured from 33-CL. bottle, stamped best before "08.03.18," into clear plastic beer cup, and a couple of days later at Brygghuset Bar & Kök, Visby, on draft into large (1/2-liter?) pilstulpe.

A classic pour, light-gold with crystal clarity and a huge creamy near-white head that lasts and leaves excellent lacing. Aroma is pilsner malt, vanilla and tart fruit. Decent carbonation supports those same flavors, although the fruit is sweeter in the quaffing. A beautiful beer, but something is not quite right, perhaps that variable fruiting.

Bright and translucent pale straw color. Bone white, two finger head that disappears with some lacing in the wake. A lot of carbonation streaming up from the bottom. A good lager. Clean, crisp and light on the palate. Some grassy bitterness, and a dry, bready finish.

Not the most flavor and aromatic Pilsner but very good one. My personal opinion is that the 76 rating is too low.

Very refreshing but still has some off-flavors.

This beer is clear light straw colored, has a white head with good lacing but small curtains.

Smelling lemon and grass, rather weak.

Having initially malty sweet corn notes, some lemon juice, and a lemon peel bitterness.

Low carbonation, soft texture, a light body body and a light dryness.

A refreshing and soft pilsener, but not the nest around.

Appearance The bartender pulls a sparkling Easter yellow beer with scattered bubbles. Placed on top is a chalk white two finger thick head. A perfect honey comb pattern of bubbles walling the side of the glass.

Smell is full of sour dough bread, aromatic hops, metallic and splash lime.

Taste Sweet malts, almonds and citrus make up the flavor palette. There’s bitter hops that linger through out the taste only to fade during the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel Lots of carbonation giving a medium body. The mouth diminishes extremely fast though.

Overall Again we’re blessed with a few warming rays of light before the Stockholmian summer leaves us for good this year. Marcus and I make our way to Loopen Marina, a restaurant/bar on floating docks. The place is packed people, relaxed and happy people. Everyone’s here, the well behaved and noisy families to the wasted macho guys blasting away on a jet ski with a cigarette in the corner of their mouths.

I’m not a big pilsner lover to be honest, they seem to come out to square and boring most of the time. Brew master Johan Spendrup at Spendrup owned Gotlands Bryggeri challenge my hesitance towards this kind of lager. Wisby Pils is an interesting try at a true Swedish pilsner.

Wisby Pils, ABV: 5,0%.
330 ml bottle, 15.90 SEK at Systembolaget.

Appearance: A pale, golden colour, and a white, small, nice-looking head.

Smell: Clean and fresh, with nice tones of citrus peels, and some hints of bread, grapefruit and lemon.

Taste: Dry hops and grains, hay, and a clean citrus-y note to that. Perhaps some dough. Bitterness is medium-high (as expected) and the body is medium-low.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant in some way, dry, but a slightly weak body. Kind of low carbonation.

Overall: A German pils with all its characteristics. Dry, but drinkable. I'd probably appreciate the most of it with grilled pork at a BBQ in the sun, or with some snacks at a party.

A: This beer pours golden with an enormous sparkeling white fluffy head that dissipates after a long time, leaving spiderweb-like lacings.

S: Clean malt and bitter hops, a hint of citric notes.

T: Bready malt with bitter hops as well as floral. Faint citric notes.

M: Bitter aftertaste. Medium to light body and richly carbonated. A kinda rough mouthfeel.

D: A standrad German Pilsener, better than many but still a standrad one.

Appearance: Wisby Pils pours a pale yellow colour along with a thin whip cream-toned crown that diminishes in a matter of seconds. Some carbonation can be visibly traced by the occasional revelation of a bubble or two.

Smell: Strong scent of hops, (pretty similar to a Czech pilsner in that sense) as well as sweet and somewhat buttery notes.

Taste: Acrid bitterness, diacetyl along with some acidic notes lurks in the background, what else? Not much...

Mouthfeel: Thin body, low in the carbonation, low to the degree of being considered flat.

Drinkability: A nice try sure, nonetheless, the result leaves me pretty unimpressed. My main complaint would have to be the way too watery feel and overall blandness of this beer.

Big Thanks to my friend Johan who brought this to me from Sweden!
Pous up a staw-yellow color. A clean white one finger head stays perched firmly atop the body with active carbonation. Decent lacing is left behind as I begin to drink.
Aroma-bold,zesty hop aroma. Are we in Prague?
Mouhtfeel- moderate hop bitterness coats the palate. Malt body is thin but present as the hops came right back for a rather bitter finish that lingers with some herbal and medicinal flavors.
A froth on the palate releases some grainy cereal malt flavors-but stays consistent. Great example of the style and sessionable.

The beer pours gold with a 1 cm white head.

The aroma is apple, honey, cut hay, and a touch of grain. Smells like a pils. Thank goodness for that--some of the other Swedish beer labeled as pils sure as hell didn't.

The mouthfeel is crisp, with nice carbonation.

The taste is sour apple up front, with an excellent, hoppy pils finish. The aftertaste is wonderfully bitter.

An excellent pils. I find it a bit more fruity than usual, but excellent nonetheless.

The colour is clear, pale yellow. The compact white foam sinks slowly into a thin white lid.

A sour note of hops with some flavours of sweet malt and yeast dominates the smell.

The carbon dioxide is balanced with small bubbles. I like it!

This beer has got a generous body of mats that passes into a gentle maltiness that develops into a nice aftertaste with a good bitterness. The aftertaste grows into a somewhat dry flavour with some sourness.

A very nice interpretation of the German Pilsener, that at least suits me!

Wisby Pils is brewed by the Gotlands Bryggeri microbrewery that serves as an experimental workshop for the large Spendrups Brewery. It is located in Visby, the main town on the island of Gotland, located in the centre of the Baltic Sea. The water on the island is very limy, bringing a special touch to their beers.

Wisby Pils is not available in the summertime, as the brewery then
focuses on brewing special beers for the popular annual medival
festival "The Medieval Week on Gotland".
