Adventures in Time Surfing from Flying Monkeys. Purchased at Franklin Beer (Franklin, PA) 11/03/25. 16 fl oz can, $ 4.50 (Including tax)/ $ 0.281 fl oz. Reviewed 09/04/25 (Review 3498). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Printed on can bottom “NOV/22/22.” Stored in reefer at distributor and at 39 degrees F at home: served at 46.0 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 53.7 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), hazy.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), opaque, with a tonne of precipitate both in suspension and coating the sides of the glass. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, gold with particles moving by Brownian movement and carbonation.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.1cm, aggressive center pour), cream, high density, average retention. Drops to a 1.3 cm crown and a crater cap. Where the cap is thickest, there is a slight orangish cast.
Lacing – Poor. Barely visible islands spot the interior of the glass, making it look dirty. However, the final gulps leave an irregular band of tiny bubbles with windows and both thin and wide columns connecting to the remaining crown.
Aroma – 4 – Orange Tang - artificial-smelling with hints of mango remaining. No hops, no yeast, no alcohol.
Flavor – 4 – Begins slightly bitter, with orange. No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (8.2 % ABV, according to the label). No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No gastric warming. Ends slightly bitter.
Palate – 4 – Medium: creamy: soft but lively carbonation
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.

Final impression and summation: 4 For an over two-year old mid-range alcohol IPA, this has held up remarkably well – the orange predominates but, unfortunately, the mango is but a ghost.

can from LCBO - pours a lightly hazed gold with orange highlights in the glass...1 finger frothy white cap....aromas are floral, herbaceous, musty over a solid sweet malt aroma...medium body rich moth feel...smooth well conditioned character...flavor has hop forward declination with malts in solid support...goes to a complex balance on the back of the palate....long, wet increasingly bitter finish...not a hint of alcohol in this well rounded ale...pleasant sipping, but beware of the lurking 8.2 ABV...it can sneak up on you if you are quaffing a few of these on a hot day

Orange and hazy with four fingers of white sustained head. The smell was the battery acid, grapefruit dank delicious juicy pineapple. And pine.

The taste is of mellow grapefruit with my umami buttered popcorn, orange juice and pine.

Medium, juicy body with fluffy light carbonation. This is an amazing one get your hands on it.

I got this in Tavistock Ontario and I’m drinking a new Hamburg Ontario December 8, 2022.

As sunlight hits a clear Imperial pint glass of this brew, its golden orange color can be fully appreciated. Moments ago, all this was hidden inside a pint can. It's dense and opaque, but not truly hazy. There's a modest amount of head and glass lacing. Not pronounced at all is the aroma. With some effort, the nose can pick up a little fruitiness. More melon or mango than citrus, or is it just because it's close to looking like mango juice? The taste is mostly maltless, bringing tropical hop flavors to the tongue. What a con job from the nose. This is a fruity hopped drinking circus, with notes of orange and lemon at the front, then more tropical fruit hints near the end. Well now, that's why Mango and Blood Orange are on the label. At least there's no deception involved. A good disguise of an 8.2% ABV is here, but this would be better as a Mimosa substitute at brunch than a stand alone ale, if you love a pure IPA.

Pours bright hazy orange with a chunky everlasting head. Tropical fruit, lemon, lime, cane sugar malts in the nose. The taste is hoppy with mango and tangerine in abundance. The mouthfeel is light bodied with medium to light carbonation. High bitterness and lots of mango and pineapple fruit notes in the long finish. light booziness in there.

A nice DIPA with a complex hop profile. Worth a try.

Just picked this up from the LCBO and it’s phenomenal. It’s a slightly dark orange cloudy beer with a bit of a burned orange aroma. It’s very very balanced. There’s sweetness, hints of dark marmalade but there’s a bready finish that hits the spot. The mouthfeel is creamy but it’s dangerous. It’s 8.2% but drinks like it’s 6% or less.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $4.25 CDN. Canning date of September 2, 2020 so this is a month old.

Appearance - Super duper hazy bright golden yellowy orange color and a big multi finger fluffy white head. Lots of lacing and excellent head retention.

Smell - copious amounts of mango, some papaya and guava too. Super juicy and fresh smelling. Big aromatics.

Taste - Plenty of sweetness, mango and papaya and guava, some other sweet tropical fruits with just a hint of bitterness to close. Booze is well concealed.

Mouthfeel - Juicy. Medium bodied, somewhat dry finish after juicy feel in the mouth. Carbonation is medium light and soft throughout. Easy to drink. Did I mention Juicy?

Overall - I'm not usually a huge fan of mango forward beers, but quite honestly, this is one of the best DIPA's I've had in a long while, and for me is something I will keep coming back to. I think the last year (or two) has shown that Flying Monkeys is the the third wheel in great Ontario IPA brewers with Great Lakes and Collective Arts as there's no one else who puts out as many high quality IPA's as these guys. And speaking personally, Adventures in Time Surfing is probably the best Flying Monkeys IPA I've had to date (even better than Sparklepuff, but just barely)

473 mL can from the LCBO; no packaging date and served slightly chilled. Brewed with mango puree and blood orange juice.

Pours hazy orange-yellow, graced with one finger of foamy white head that lasts for the better part of five minutes. A beautiful band of wavy lace has been left behind; its other remnants include a thin collar and a few filmy wisps atop the liquid. The nose is heavy on the tropical fruit, with a syrupy sweetness that makes it reminiscent of a fruit cup - I'm getting mango for sure, with notes of mandarin orange, lychee, melon, coconut and pineapple; lesser hints of blood orange and key lime, too, with just a twinge of ethanol.

Pretty intense, and the flavours are all over the place... but it's a Flying Monkeys DIPA, so anyone expecting subtlety and nuance isn't looking in the right place to begin with. The mango is front and center, but I'm also getting coconut, grapefruit and mandarin orange, backed by a light cocktail syrup sweetness; notes of blood orange become more noticeable towards the tail end of the sip, together with canned peaches, lychee and passion fruit. Pithy, slightly earthy bitterness at the finish, with more mango and blood orange in the aftertaste, as well as a light booziness. Medium-full in body, with assertive carbonation that remains active well into the session, lending a prickliness to its smooth, creamy texture. Limited drinkability, but that's hardly a sin for the style.

Final Grade: 4.04, an A-. Let me just first say that there are few Ontario breweries that can pump out good-to-great IPAs at half the rate that the Flying Monkeys have managed over the past year or so. Adventures in Time Surfing could be considered one of their better ones, depending on how much you like mango and blood orange, or Sabro hops for that matter. Good stuff, worth a spin and all that - I'm sure I'll return to it eventually.

Pours gorgeous yellow, keeping a small, lacy head. The nose is very nice, with notes of apricot seed, but mostly honey. It is interesting then that the taste is nothing like the scent. Woody tones, but also lactose and maybe mango.
Boozy feel.
Nice and one of Flying Monkeys' better ones, though clearly not as good as Sparklepuff.

Soft hazy orange. Not much by way of a head or lace. Orange nose, a bit of pith, notable hops. Not outrageously happy for an imperial IPA, quite approachable. Generally orange citrus in character. Not boozy despite being 8%, but you'll felt sneak up on you eventually. Decent, but not really memorable.
