Oh, delight! Bright bubbles float above a luscious magenta body of velvety blueberries swirling with sly acidic quips of floral lemon verbena. Huzzah!

INSIDE THE RECIPE IBUs 15 Malts: 2-Row Pale Malt, Crystal Maple Malt Hops: Mosaic

TASTE
Jammy Gamay Noir notes segue into curious Pinot Noir hints unique to the profile of blueberry skins. Meanwhile, lemon verbena sings with floral, citrus whispers in the briefly acidic body elevating the Velvet Bubble Lord to fresh and fancy realms of joy.

STYLE Brewed with special Philly Sour Yeast, the Velvet Bubble Lord luxuriates with refreshing acidity and deep stone fruit notes perfect for the profiles we imagined for our fruited sours. Fresh Blueberry Purée and citrusy Lemon Verbena create wonderful buoyancy in this delicious beer with blush bubbles floating above a luscious magenta body of velvety fruit.

SERVE WITH Enjoy with an appetizer of fried calamari with a fresh lemon squeeze or baked burrata cheese with basil-y pesto and crusty bread. Pair with a fat rib-eye steak with balsamic glaze, or, drink it with a dessert of strawberry shortcake with orange-laced whipped cream.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My sixteenth beer from the Barrie, Ontario brewery, and fourth for 2025...

473mL can
Served in an imperial nonic pint glass

This beer pours a deep rust color with burnt orange highlights and hazy. It is topped with a mountain of tan head that leaves fantastic lacing.

Tart lemon and blueberry aroma.

It tastes just like it smells. Tart lemon and blueberry but not sour. Lingering tartness in the finish.

Thin bodied with a dryish mouthfeel

I really like this beer. I am a big fan of blueberry and lemon together. I like how it is tart and refreshing and not sour which leads to this being more of a summer beer that I can drink more than one of unlike a sour beer that, while it may be great, is a one and done beer due to the intense flavor. Good stuff

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jun 21 2022 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear reddish-purple colour, with streams of effervescence rising to the surface and reinforcing a glorious two-inch head of billowing, foamy, pale pinkish head. It lasts for at least ten minutes, caking the glass with a full coat of lace as it ever-so-slowly drops downward - looks amazing thus far. Smells like blueberry juice, with added hints of lemon, red grape and pomegranate.

I like it, for the most part. Sharp lemon and blueberry at the forefront, backed by grainy pale malts and a vaguely grape and/or red wine-like fruitiness that I find appealing. Quite tart, with a sour finish followed by lingering hints of blueberry juice, skin tannins and herbal lemon verbena reverberating into the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light, and the carbonation is not only aggressive, but persistent: usually beers like this gas themselves out before I finish the review, but this one stayed super-fizzy right down to the last gulp.

Final Grade: 3.85, a B+. Velvet Bubble Lord is a good blueberry sour, but the over-carbonated mouthfeel immediately bugged me, and I didn't quite get over it over the course of the glass. That's a shame, because as far as blueberry sours go, I can't think of any others (at least, off the top of my head) that have tasted as good as this one. This is worth a shot for sure, and I'd pick it up again if I were in the mood for a blueberry beer - which legitimately does happen once in a blue moon, I swear.

This is actually a quite flavourful sour, not just a punch you in the face with mindless sourness sort of thing. Pours a big short-lived head, but not much by way of lace. But a handsome bluish ruby hue. Nose is fruity with a little sweetness laid over some sour. Yep, its noticeably blueberry. Sour up front, but not brutal like so many others, it's actually tasty. Nice marriage of sour and fruit. This is how a sour should be.

I bought 1 can at the LCBO in Ontario 473ml at 6%.
Poured into glass with a 2 finger head the color is amazingly almost dark red like wine color .
Blueberries, lemons and citrus. I actually like the flavors it's well balanced and then the sour kicks in very zesty.
I'm not really a fan of sours but this one is a little different.
Overall a refreshing blueberry sour beer with a little kick .
Cheers

Served cool into a pint glass.

Appearance - Purple with reddish highlights. Two fingers of slightly pink head are poured but dissipates quick to a more enduring half finger.

Smell - Blueberries, a touch of lemon to amp up the aromas. There's something distinctly pop-like about this. Good depth of aroma. Lemon shows up more on the nose after initial sip.

Taste - Pretty tart, the blueberries are more subdued here and lemon more pronounced. Some light graininess in the background. I get metallic flavors too as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel - Fizzy, medium bodied and semi-dry finish. Seems gassy.

Overall - Interesting sour but the initial impressions are better than the final result for me. Glad to have picked up two. Won't pick up any others.
