THE GENTLE GIANT OF SMALL IPAS

Light Moves stomps in with friendly freshness that surprises at every sip.

INSIDE THE RECIPE
39 IBUs
Malts: Pale Malt (2-Row), Brown Rice Flakes, Rice Hulls
Hops: Idaho-7, Sabro, El Dorado

Dry-Hopping: El Dorado, Sabro, Dolcita

TASTE
Melon, berry, and peach notes shuffle through in fluffy slippers of smooth hops. At 4% ABV, this light, crisp IPA is a gentle giant that can crush it all day.

STYLE
With surprisingly agile and balanced hops, our idea of a Small IPA is a light craft beer with monstrous freshness. Designed to be sociable and effervescent, soft malts drift in a bright straw body with a clear, fleeting finish.

SERVE WITH
Food-friendly and fresh, try Light Moves with anything --vegetarian Spicy Bang-Bang Broccoli; a Chipotle-rubbed, melty Cubano Sandwich; or a pita filled with falafel or Souvlaki-style anything with garlicky tzatziki.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jan 27 2026 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a lightly fogged straw yellow colour, topped with an inch of loose, soapy white suds that fades away over the next two or three minutes. A frothy collar and thin cap live on, with a meandering ring of lace clinging to the glass; looks fine so far. Peach candy on the nose, with hints of pineapple, coconut, melon and Asian pear - it's a pretty enticing aroma, at least for only 4%.

It tastes alright, but I'm getting a lot of coconut... like, way more than I'd ever care for, particularly in a session IPA. I'm also getting hints of melon, apricot and orange citrus, as well as some rice cereal sweetness, but it wraps back around to coconut scented suntan lotion on the back end. Citrus & coconut aftertaste that quickly dissipates. Light in body, with lively carbonation that prickles the palate continuously throughout each sip; feels smooth, and not quite as thin as you'd expect given the abv. Fair drinkability, but this one ain't for me.

Final Grade: 3.68, a B grade. Light Moves is a flavourful light IPA, but unfortunately for me, a significant fraction of those flavours are ones that I don't especially care for. It's mainly the coconut that bugs me (Sabro hops strike again) - and I'll admit, I've never been big on coconut, so personal preference is a big factor here. However, its not so much the presence of coconut that irks me, but rather the degree to which it dominates the profile, thereby marginalizing the other hop flavours. Combine that with my general lack of interest in session IPAs, and this brew is most likely a one-and-done. That being said, it's interesting enough to be worth trying at least once - and as is usually the case with Flying Monkeys, I really like the can art (though the Comic Sans is a shame).

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From The Roundhouse Centre LCBO on Howard Ave. in nearby Windsor. Canned December 22/25. My 28th beer from the Barrie, Ontario brewery, and 6th for 2026. Wildly adored by Sundae the cat...
