A great light beer: pours fairly bright slightly hazy yellow. A slight bit of lacing complexity is actually there, you can taste the ingredients not unlike a Pilsner Urquell yet somehow slightly a bit more light and hop forward like a session IPA. I’m drinking mid December right now, but fantastic in the summer at the beach, and at a reasonable price point too – who knew it was possible in a craft beer!

473 ml can served cold into a tulip. Purchased from Sobey's for about $3.25 CDN. Canning date is hard to read, I think it's May 6, 2021.

Appearance - semi hazy, rich golden brew, lots of bubbles, enticing multiple finger head and pretty good staying power.

Smell - Lots of grain a little bit crackery with plenty of corn backing things up. Some light weediness in the background and a slightly unusual plastic like smell shows up a bit. All in all it still smells like beer, but there is a slight artificialness to the intensity of the grain.

Taste - Plenty of crackery goodness, quite sweet with corn and a faint weediness in the background. Quite flavorful and tasty. Some light orchard fruit fruitiness (apples and pears) in there too.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, crisp carbonation, approaching gassy but easy to drink.

Overall - Rather flavorful, albeit sweet tasting lager that is easy to guzzle and serves as a nice addition to Nickel Brook's lineup.

Nothing special to look at, but pretty decent after that. Short lived head atop a golden brew, no lace at all. Smells crisp, lemony, fruity, grassy hops. Appetizing enough. Crisp to drink, nice lemony bite. Fruity and hoppy again to taste. Nicely balanced overall, comfortable and pleasant to drink. Competently made.

473 mL can from Superstore; dated Nov 19 2020 and served at cellar temperature.

Pours a foggy pale yellow colour, generating nearly an inch of soapy, foamy white head that seeps away within the next several minutes. A modest ring of arcing lace is deposited in its wake, as it's soon reduced to a frothy collar and some filmy wisps on the surface. Apple juice from concentrate on the nose, with subtler hints of white grape juice, orange and tropical fruit, as well as some grainy malt sweetness.

Rather underwhelming - it tastes of grainy pale malts and red apple flesh, with muted suggestions of fruit cup pineapple and mango. That theme continues through to the finish, which is a little sweet, with briefly lingering hints of apple juice and papaya preceding a lightly sweet-ish aftertaste that fades off quickly. Light in body, with middling carbonation levels that lightly agitate the surface of the palate - smooth and ultimately a satisfying lager to toss back.

Final Grade: 3.43, a B-. No Bad Daze wasn't bad, but I feel like this can was past its prime - three months may be pushing it for a dry hopped lager (and I doubt Loblaw's kept it refrigerated for much, if any, of that time). This just isn't what I want out of a pale lager - it drinks more like a fruity blonde ale IMO.

[Updated Aug 25 2021]

New can, new label and everything; dated Jul 22 2021 and served slightly chilled. I just can't shake the thought of 'apples' from my head when I sip this beer. There are citrus and cocktail fruit notes in there too, but the taste receptors in my brain have decided that this is an 'apple' beer, for whatever reason. It's flavourful and easy to drink quickly, which is a win for any light lager - I was hard on this originally, but I guess I was just expecting something else. The truth is that it'll do, and I'd drink it again.
