On tap at the brewery today. According to Mike Roy (the brewer), rye made up 33% of the mash, which made for a (not so) hilariously stuck mash and a 4 hour 33 min lauter. Thankfully, it was all worth it as this beer is absolutely delicious and a very worthy beer to celebrate my defense.

Dark copper-amber with a dense light brown head with good retention and lacing, this looks very nice, even though it's darker than I like my DIPAs. The nose is excellent! Big, pungent pine hops blend exceptionally well with the peppery, spicy rye. Moderately flowery and with some citrus hops as well (this was dry-hopped with Sorachi Ace). Enjoyable.

Medium bodied this beer opens with a blend of malt sweetness, rye spiciness and an excellent blend of hops. Pine and citrus with an excellent balance between bittering and flavor hop additions, this beer is resiny and bitter which complements the spicy, peppery rye flavor. Moderate hop flavor is present on the mid-palate, lending a fruity sweetness, this beer finishes with a nice blend of rye, bittering hops and malt sweetness in excellent balance. Excellent stuff, I drank two pints and could have had another two. Highly recommended.

A - Poured with one finger of off white foam on top of a clear, amber brown body with good retention and excellent lace.

S - Toffee, nutty brown malt, and sweet and spicy hop notes of pine and grapefruit.

T - Nutty malt and spicy hops up front. Some pine and caramel in the middle with spicy rye in the finsh.

M - A medium thick body, moderate carbonation, and a well balanced finish.

D - Very well made, the hop character is pungent and fruity with a distinct spicy note of rye to push the rich malt notes forward. one of the best rye IPAs I have ever had.
