Look: It pours clear golden with a white head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has aromas of apricot with some doughy wheat. There are low levels of floral in the background.

Taste: It has flavors that are balance between the apricot and floral hops with the doughy wheat in support. The two sets of hops lightly clash with each other.

Feel: It has a medium body with the hops lasting long in the aftertaste.

Overall, the flavors are decent, but the hops clash a bit which each other.

Since I spent a couple/few days celebrating CANada Day on 01 July, it only seems right & fitting to spent this four-day weekend drinking, reviewing & rating AmeriCAN-owned & made beers. Cheers!

From the CAN: "Brewed For Us"; "Artprize"; "Hoppy Wheat Lager"; "Crack it. Pour it. Love it."; "Drink responsibly. They don't serve Founders in the clink."

From the Brewery's Website: "We’re strong believers that the only thing better than brewing beer is brewing beer with friends. We worked with our pals at Mahou San Miguel to bring the recipe for Trigo (Spanish for ‘wheat’) to life. They brought their lager-brewing expertise and we brought our hopping expertise. The result is a clean and crisp wheat lager with big, American-hopped aromatics. Salud!"; "IBUs: 35".

These guys clearly get it! It all begins with the Crack! of the vent & so it was in this insCANce. I was rather aggressive in my Glug since. as a wheat beer, it was most likely going to be cloudy. I watched as it roiled, fizzed & foamed to create a finger of fizzy, foamy, soapy, bone-white head that quickly disappeared. 8=( Color was a slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). The nose was interesting. It had a tropical & citrusy fruitiness, plus a slight tartness from the wheat. Hmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, about on par for the style. The taste was another CANundrum - the style does not allow for more than a medium bitterness & yet the hops were what were prevalent. Hmm. I liked it in that it was not too tropical nor was it too citrusy, but at the same time, it was too … too. Finish was semi-dry and quite refreshing. I wish that the wheat (& other malts) had been a little more assertive, especially when reviewing to style. This was not one for purists, but if you are looking for a refreshing Summer beer, you CAN do MUCH worse! YMMV.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a weizen glass.

Pours a medium straw with a soapy cap that recedes to lace. Moderate chill cloud.

Aroma is bready malt, slightly sweet and with a wheat twang. Hops are apparent the aroma but not at the front. Smells like a wheat.

Flavor is sweet crystal malt with a big hop presence for the style. This is sweet rolls and banana bread with fruity resinous hop. Finishes dry and slightly bitter. Little bit of fusel alcohol in the swallow. Interesting.

Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. A bit slick on the tongue.

Good refreshing lager, nice easy drinking beer.

From the can, it pours a slightly hazy amber with a nice white head and leaves lacing as you enjoy it. Spicy scent in the nose. In the mouth, it is a bit of malt.

Served on tap in a snifter. Orange colored liquid, hazy. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, wheat, a touch of pine. Flavor is bright, and pretty much lives up to "hoppy wheat": citrus and wheat, but not as bitter as a self described hoppy ale sounds like it would be. Decent.

Trigo has a very thick, creamy, ivory head, a hazy, gold-orange appearance, and moderate glass lacing. The aroma is of citrus and white wheat, and the flavor is similar, with some hop resin. Bitterness is noticeable. Mouthfeel is medium, and Trigo finishes medium sweet.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler on 11-7-18 for $1.83. Canned on 9-6-18; consumed on 2-13-19. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured a golden orange with a decent white head with the initial pour.

Nose is lemony with a hint of grapefruit.

Taste is lemon forward over a lager yeast infused wheat malt base. Finish is a medium grapefruit rind that leaves a residual bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly refreshing.

Overall a somewhat unique beer combining old world lager yeast with current world hopping.

Poured from the can into a wheat ale glass.

Deep rich body, slightly hazy with a touch of edged chestnut brown and muted brass colored body. Some linear carbonation, but more so a thick beaming lathery fine as thick as a fist bellows out. Settles eventually with some pill and soapy lacing, for an aggressive posture.

Nice hop nose, coming a bit herbal and somewhat juicy smelling on the hop angle. Aroma has minimal sensing chewy depth as it is big on hop forward action. Some nice mild perfume like florals seem to come out as well.

Palate seems to be pretty basic. There's a touch of fade here in the flavor (checks can date.. Oh my..) but it's still palatable. Palate on the hops angle seems considerably more fruity with touch of juiced orange a bit, mixing with a little tropical as well. Touches a bit of cantaloupe and melon quality as well, but with a lighter body.

A bit of fade here (that's on me) but also an almost session like malt body, still the base flavors are very solid and enjoyable.

Sometimes the collaboration works (as with Trigo) and sometimes it's a mash. This works buena.
a) Extra points for color, extra burnished, hazed bronze body with recovering head and ample lace.
s) Mono green apricot, orchard, greenhouse.
t) Myriad flavors: Flower shop, greenhouse, lemongrass, pepper, verbena, fecund, herbal, "Stemmy and Sassafras" as a fave BA'r wrote.
f) right weight, that extra wheaty feel, prickly, peppery, clean finish.
o) Unlike any other beer, which is what we seek, right? Novelty!

Pours from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Hazy pale yellow color with a small white head. Average head retention and some streaks of lacing. Aroma and taste include sweet maltiness, a little citrus and some wheat bitterness. Everything is fairly subdued and subtle. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Would make a good summertime thirst quencher. I could see pitchers of this beer with friends.

12oz can dated 08 29 18 poured into a pint glass shows a pale, cloudy, yellow- tinted body, almost like used water, and very briefly sustains a 1/4" cap of white fluffy bubbles, leaving minimal spotted lacing.

Aroma is bready malt and a slight hint of citrus.

Flavor is a citrusey wheat bread with a clean finish.

Mouthfeel is clean and finishes wet.

Overall a just better than average all day drinker.

12 ounce can poured into a nonic glass.
The beautiful artwork on the can accurately conveys the quality craftsmanship that has gone into this Lager.
Trigo introduces itself as a pretty golden yellow, somewhat hazy with some lacing .
The aroma has nice citric notes with a pine resin accompaniment
which carries over in the taste. The malt gives a sweetness and balances the opening hoppy notes. It is a marriage of the hoppy, strong qualities of good IPAs and a convivial Lager with those social malts. This creation of Founders is a class act-I hope that a lot of people will try and become fans of this very good representative of an emerging style.

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning date printed on the bottom, served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: It has a thick, one and a half finger head that stays around for a while and leaves a small amount of patchy lacing. It's a hazy, bright gold color.

Smell: There's a faint, musky, pine resin, hop aroma with some grains towards the end.

Taste: It has a good amount of musky, dank hops in it but on top of a solid, wheaty backbone. Despite the hoppiness, it's not bitter at all.

Mouthfeel: It's smooth and medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall: A well balanced beer that is strong with the hop flavors but keeps the bitterness in check with a healthy amount of wheat.

Can poured into a Founders Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours faintly hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a nice layer and leaves some spotty lacing.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit, a little pine, bready wheaty malt, and a little honey sweetness.

T: Citrus, lemon and grapefruit, a little pine, tropical fruit, passion fruit, peach, and hints of papaya, faint bubble gum and floral notes, bready wheaty malt, and a touch of honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, somewhat lively carbonation.

O: You don't really see many hoppy wheat lagers, but this one is quite nice. Everything plays together nicely. Glad I was able to get my hands on some.

Hoppy wheat lager? Color me interested.

Pours a pretty golden orange color with a firm one-finger head that leaves behind some lace. It's a very striking beer, in my opinion. The nose is very aromatic with lots of crisp pine scent; what I'd expect from a pale ale or IPA, but not a lager. A nice surprise. The taste is delicious, with the rich malty quality of a sturdy lager but with the citrusy bitterness and acidity of an IPA. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean.

I don't know how many hoppy wheat lagers are out there, but consider me a fan of the style. This could be my go-to lager for the foreseeable future. Really good stuff. Another quality effort from the folks at Founders.
