I had this on tap at the Founders tap room. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and this did not disappoint. I had tried a few chipotle pepper beers last year and they always seemed to be very weak from a spice standpoint, the BA spite serrano delivered on heat.
Very thin head as it was poured in the snifter and the aroma hits your right away. It would be impossible to "accidentally" take a sip of this stuff, the aroma is amazing with spice as well as a bit of oak on your nose. The heat builds on your palate but the richness of the bourbon barrel also comes though nicely. Great mouthfeel. Would definitely try again.

A: Light amber color. Looked like a solid beer, not watery at all.
S: Subtle pepper smell.
Taste: Light and tasty at first with hints of slight hops and fruity flavors, then it gets really hot and tastes like chillies.
M: Like the taste, really a good grip on the palate (as is the case with most founders beers) but after the great fruity taste the hotness becomes overwhelming and sufferable.
Overall: This beer definitely had the same quality as other founders beers: a great grip on the palate with no hints of wateryness and full of taste. I found the lingering hotness of the chillies to be doable, but unpleasant. How I came to drink this beer was my friend ordered it and couldn't handle it so I slew it for him. Founders has great beers, and this is one of them. I, however, was not the biggest fan.

Founders Barrel Aged Spite Serrano
Drank this a few months ago at the brewery.
Orange with a little head.
Mostly peppers in the nose. Bourbon is there too. You can definitely smell the heat.
Peppers really come through as expected. The heat is intense but not completely overwhelming. There's a little bit of bourbon along with some coconut too.
Overall a decent beer. Not one you're going to drink a lot of but it's certainly well made. Would've liked a little more balance but it's ok. I love hot, spicy food and was very pleased to be able to try this. The guajillo version was much more balanced and approachable. The habanero was just pure fire in your mouth.
