New find at the Polish deli, hoping it will be decent. Says “without sweeteners”, though sugar syrup is the second ingredient after water. No artificial sweeteners is probably more accurate. There’s also a good amount of sediment in the bottle, which you don’t often see with sweetened commercial Kvass.
Looks nice, dense creamy head of tan foam that sticks around and laces the glass. Clear garnet tone with rapid carbonation. Pouring in the sediment adds a dark haze and seemingly more fruitiness.
Interesting aroma of raisin bread, prune and raisin sweetness, Malta, sweet wort.
Taste has a little acidity backed by a fruity plum raisin sweetness, and a light metallic note at first that eventually goes away. Other than that it’s pretty good. Very raisiny. Light to medium bodied and effervescent, slightly sticky on the lips. No perceived bitterness, hops are listed in the ingredients. Also kvass wort concentrate 6.9%, rye malt extract, and salt.
Overall it’s good, one of the better examples of a commercial kvass.
