on tap at the cheeky monk on colfax. poured orange with almost no head into a large snifter. not the serving type i would expect for a beer thats only 5%, but i guess the heavily spiced qualities require some sort of aromatics enhancing glassware. got this one insead of a slice of cake. smells quite spicy and strong, a bit of pumpkin pie filling smell going on, nothing of fresh pumpkins. taste is spice and vanilla, with canned pumpkin flavor. even a little hops show up in the background here. mouthfeel was a letdown as there was nto much carbonation and the body was thin. for me, a good pumpkin ale needs a slightly higher abv in spirit of the season. not a bad brew, but left something to be desired.

A: Deep, clear gold/orange color. Poured a 1 finger off-white head that dissipated slowly to skim around the edge of the glass. Laced in a couple random spots.

S: All spice and pumpkin. Lots of intense spice.

T: Consistent with the nose. Lots of spice (yes its very spicy). Pumpkin well in the background.

M: Light body. Medium carbonation. Very heavy on the palate for a pretty thin beer. Spices linger.

D: Too much spice; gets old pretty quick. Can it be "mulled" beer?

On tap at Dry Dock, I don't seek out pumpkin beers but for some reason I am curiously interested as if one will actually taste liek pumpkin pie. They almost never do and this was no different. This was golden orange with a heavy perfume like spiced smell. The flavor was intense, lots of perfume, potpourri, cloves, vanilla, spices! Overall, this was just too intense.
