Surly Raspberry Chocolate Torte Darkness Rye BA RIS, 12% ABV. Pours blacker than black with a 1.5 finger tan head that left lots of lacing. Nose is raspberry and chocolate. Taste follows, with the raspberry shading the chocolate, quite sweet, equally tart and bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

Look - really nice dark with a tan head rimming and lacing
Smell - chocolate raspberry barrel
Taste - pretty much the same as the smell but dialed back
Feel - medium full body with a medium light carb
Overall - could use more in the taste and feel

16oz can, inside of a box. Stamped on can bottom is 'CANNED ON 11/20/22'.
Black colored body, with mahogany back lit edge. Quick pour results in a two finger tan head, but this dissipates to islands and a ring. Leaves behind a scattered pattern of small lacing spots.
Aroma of raspberry and chocolate sitting over the base dark roasted malts base.
Taste is of fudgy covered raspberries. The solid base of roasted malts stands out. Quite sweet. More chocolate malt in the aftertaste. Rye adds a lingering spice note.
Thick and creamy mouth feel. Well hidden higher ABV%. Very good carbonation.
A real sipping beer, that also can stand as a dessert stout. No real improvement over the base beer, but provides a different perspective. Well balanced, even with its dramatically different components.

Lots of roasted malt, dark chocolate and raspberry. Rye whiskey barrel is there but takes a back seat to everything else. The spiciness allows it to come through - without that it would be lost. Raspberry and dark chocolate is lovely and works so well as a combo. Solid beer.

Pours black with little to moderate head, leaving fine lacing on the glass. As soon as you pour, a waft of raspberry hits the nose. The rye barrel is immediately noticeable as well, with chocolate a strong second. Taste is nicely balanced, with no one taste overwhelming the other. The rye barrel profile in taste is quite subdued. The ABV is quite hidden as well.

This beer pours pitch black. The head was brown, with huge bubbles. The head dissipated almost instantly. There's no lacing on the glass.
Raspberry is the star of the aroma. It is a deep rich aroma. The raspberry is backed up with notes of chocolate.
Raspberry starts off the flavor train in this beer. Deep and rich tasting. The raspberry leans toward the tart side. The chocolate comes into the mix on the backside. The chocolate and raspberry flavors work well together.
There's a good deal of heat from the alcohol in this beer. It's not over the top, but it's there. Thick full bodied.
A delicious take on the base beer.
