Here at The Thirsty Badger in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. This was brewed especially for here and since I’m in the Badger State, I had to give it a go. Gorgeous outside today, and this was a fitting complement to this Octoberfest weather as it went down easily and nicely!
No surprise that this was golden and clear as there wasn’t any head as this was handed to me in a plain pint glass. There wasn’t any lacing to be seen either as the carbonation was also nowhere to be found. Basic Pilsner Malt was in the muted nose, with some bread, dough, and sour grass. A nice, subtle floral undertone came through in the taste along with some cracked cracker and a bit of grain. Balanced, slick, and with a hint of elderflower in the back, this was perfect for a September day such as this!
A bit of honey sweetness and slickness stuck around on my palate as I finished this off, with this leaving a nice impression on me. A step above the typical lawnmower beer, there was a lot to like here as it even felt a tad creamy. Would be nice to see this listed on Surly’s website, as this was a nice beer for a place full of lively imbibers!
