"Telegraph Los Padres Saison
Saison · 7.0% · Santa Barbara, CA
An unfiltered, dry hopped Belgian saison, our Los Padres Ale is a beer we’re sure our fathers would be proud of. Redolent with grassy and crisp grapefruit hop aromas, a slight residual sweetness balances the beer perfectly. A hint of clove and a spicy finish make this a very satisfying beer." Commercial Description

1/2 growler filled in Brewster,NY

Pours hazed darker tangerine, moderate head.

This beer is loaded with fruity hops, Belgian spice, cloves, cilantro...tasty American style saison..went great with some soft blue cheese.

Quality stuff...Belgian lovers go get some

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at Hillside Bar in Seattle.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a very light haze and a light effervescence. Head is a thin layer of foam with a nice lace.

Smell: lightly toasty, funky and grassy. Uncomplicated but well-wrought.

Taste: nicely funky right off the bat with a bit of sweetness and a light grassy quality. Subtle but I quite like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: this beer really appeals to me, although it is a hair too sweet to drink a lot of it.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a light orange with a crisp white head, solid retention, some lace.

S: Very earthy with some pine, mushrooms.

T: Lemons and citrus with some earthy spice. Coriander and white pepper.

M: Medium-bodied, frothy carbonation, smooth, easy drinking.

O: A solid saison though it didn't wow me. The overall flavour is quite good. Another good one from the underrated Telegraph.

On tap at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood, CA.

Pours a murky light orange with an off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, yeast, spices, bubblegum, and some slightly chalky aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good saison with some nice aromas and flavors going on.

On-tap at The Surly Goat. Served in a flute-like glass, 33 cl of it. On to the beer:

Brillinat golden color. There's a big fluffy head that stays up awhile and a very good quantity of lace whirls around the glass. The nose is stunning, to be blunt. It's complex, it's hoppy, and it's got a little funk to it. Clean crisp hops are the center of attention, grass, lemon, brett, gum, mint, just fun to smell!

Not qute as complex is the taste, but it remains very fun. This saison is rather clean and balanced. It's rustic, minty, hoppy. The body of the beer is super smooth, carbonation is well controlled, the body not too big or light.

I don't often have the opportunity to try beers from Telegraph, but when I do, I often enjoy them.

Yellow body and a white head, good retention.

Nose opens up with a few spins, delectably floral. Not so peppery as lemony sweet.

Not sure about robust, but a well spiced and minimally citric saison. Grainy, has that certain yeast body to it that sits under pepper and spice. Well crafted and refreshing if unspectacular but was my go to at the weekend tastings. My preference to the California ale.

Aggressive carbonation, good bite without being bitter. I'd call it medium bodied compared to an APA.

Rich and flavorful in the Saison style. Cloudy amber in the tulip. Nice lacing down the glass with the usual head and plenty of carbonation on the tongue.

Quite robust and mellow at the same time. Lots of malty sweetness. A sourish aroma along with the caramel. A distinct hint of lemon Life Savers-- it's that sweet and acidic flavor simultaneously. Lots of the Belgian bitterish yeasty flavor. Tremendously drinkable, but more for sipping than quaffing. Complex and interesting.

On tap at Local Habit in San Diego.

06-18-2012 update: Had a pint on tap at California Kebab and Beer Garden in Pacific Beach. Rich and edgy in the classic Saison style. Warm malt with a toasty taste. Quite mellow and rounded, but ends on a sharper note. Salty and meat-- sort of a French dip-- with a distinctly dry and bitter finish.
