Imperial, not in alcohol, but in taste. This session Oatmeal stout is the newest addition to the Breakfast Beer family and it is going to leave you stunned. Brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian animal are picky and will eat nothing but the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system aid the process of breaking down the beans which brews a strong, fist-in-the-air flavored coffee.

330ml bottle poured into a snifter.
Very deep murky brown to almost black in color, the pour generates small foamy tan head that quickly dies down to some bubble film on the surface and leaves small amount of lacing patch and spot.
Smell of aromatic coffee in kind of espresso, mocha, as well as cocoa and creamy, milky to dark chocolate, roasted malt reveals in the middle along with charred nut, caramel, dark bread, licorice, and some vanilla. Hop is also there with touch of spice and citrus undertone.
The taste is led by black coffee with some sourness and astringency touch. Roasted malt and cocoa as well as chocolate and caramel follow closely thereafter along with smoothness of oat yet dark bread and charred nut from malt while hop with its citrus, spice, and mild bitterness.
Light body with good crisp and lively carbonation through the palate, quite smooth through the mouthfeel, finish is dry.
The coffee goodness is still bold despite being attenuated to be sessionable brew. The aroma is great holding rich coffee Stout profile. This weasel is weak but still good enough.

Nabbed this at Beer Lab in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
4.80% ABV. Session oatmeal stout. Brewed and bottled at Lervig.
A: No head. Opaque black body.
Sm: Marvelous coffee. Dark malt sweetness. Chocolate malt. Marshmallow. A blip of faint vanilla.
Aromatic intensity us average. Suggests an oatmeal stout with plenty of flavour.
T/Mf: Has a soft underside of vanilla, with a classic oatmeal stout smooth and wet mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, with an adequately robust dark and chocolate malt backbone. The coffee lacks pungency, but what little there is is lovely - a hint of roast, some acidity, java (or perhaps more accurately, Sumatra?).
Balanced albeit downplayed in terms of depth and complexity of flavour in comparison to Mikkel's other (superior) brunch weasel brews.
O: Other Mikkeller Brunch Weasel brews often boast some of the finest coffee character featured in any beer; this, unfortunately, skimps on the coffee pungency. I do like it and it's well above average, but I hoped for far better given the brewer involved. Easily the weakest beer in the brunch weasel series - and not just in terms of ABV.

330ml bottle into a conical 2/3-pint glass. Paid £3.50 for a single bottle.
Pours an opaque, very dark brown, almost black body. When held to the light, ruby-plum highlights can be observed, along with a large amount of visible carbonation near the edges of the glass. A light, one-finger in height, bubbly, tan coloured head reduces quickly to a thin film and collar, leaving minimal lace behind.
Dry, dark, intense, bitter roasted coffee undoubtedly dominates the nose. Underneath, wood smoke, ash and heavily roasted dark malts form an abundance of charred profiles, lightened only by hints of berry and mild dark fruit sweetness. Musty, earthy, herbal and woody hops become noticeable towards the finish. Taste follows suit, leading with an intensely dark, acrid, ground black coffee flavour upfront. Charred, burnt, dark roasted malts follow, before leading to hints of fruit sweetness around the mid-palate. Light berry profiles provide a small amount of sweetness and fleeting relief from the bitter coffee and roast, before burnt barley and an unpleasant sour coffee acidity re-enter. In the mouth a light to medium body and excessive carbonation give an inadequately thin feel, but most disappointingly, the addition of oatmeal goes mainly undetected, failing to add anything in the way of texture or taste. The finish mainly comprises of more dry, coarse, bitter and acidic coffee profiles, that linger astringently on the palate along with charred wood and bitter herbal hops.
Overall this was a very disappointing beer. Bitter, watery, and one-dimensional, it reminds me of the cold stale sludge you find at the bottom of a cafetiere. I can’t say I’d happily part with my own money to try this one again, in fact, I think I’d have to politely decline if offered one for free.

Pours an unctuous anthracite with just a touch of cadmium film that goes fast. 3.5
Ash, molasses, and black currant on the nose. 3.75
Straight coffee cream hard candies up front with touches of date, almond, flapjack (oats and brown sugar) and blackberry. 4
Espresso spritzer end and cola linger.
Medium, round, chewy. 4
Impressive body for both the ABV and the - the oatmeal to thank for that, I guess. And the coffee is well handled - no acid, no char. Basically, Breakfast with the rough edges knocked off - and much more accessible for it. 4.25

Pours a decent, very stable brown head. Ink black with coal red hints at the edges seen against the light. Leaves sticky ribbons of lacing in the glass.
Wonderful nose, full of inviting, earthy coffee, together with bread and toffee. It got a bitter sting to it, resulting from the huge amount of coffee used in this, while a gentle sweetness remains noteable. Coffee complexity is astonishing, has a chocolate, creamy touch, with syrup, earth, mocha and wooden hints, interacting well as a counterpart to the sharp bitterness.
First tasting impression is a little disappointing, due to a carbonation, which is too high and metallic for this kind of brew, weakening the warmer, saturated flavors. This leads to very bitter coffee impact on the palate, along with sweeter, slick malty hints, which unfortunately aren’t able to add enough balance to the beer. Cream still leads to a very smooth mouthfeel, finished by an even more pungent coffee bitterness, leaving no room for malt or more subtle flavors - comes out a little flat, straight, one dimensional. The coffee component on its own ist still very convincing, but isn’t on par with the other ingedients.

330ml bottle bottle poured into tulip 19/1/15
A dark cola looking liquid, massive brown foam falls quickly and cakes the side of the glass, strange having this much random lace
S coffees hard to miss, chocolate and char, some prunes, earthy notes, a little lopsided towards coffee but that don't bother me
T coffees faded a little on the mouth, fruit I can place and plenty of prune and raisin, decent but a small step back from the nose
M lack body but has enough carbonation to give it some life, chocolate and coffee linger
O not a bad little session stout, the coffee carrying this one along, nowhere near its big brother in intensity but shes mighty drinkable
Decent beer but 10$ for a 330ml low booze coffee stout? its a one and done tic

Nice black pour, small light mocha head that quickly dissipates. Thin circle of foam.
Smell of cooking chocolate, cocoa powder, rich roasted malts, faint vanilla, mochaccino. A pinch of hop too.
Can't find the same richness in the taste. Starts bitter with acidic coffee, weirdly watered down too. A weird preserved berry note, not exactly raisin. Cocoa and coffee powder. Roasted, actually burnt malts. Dry dusty finish with some earthy (bit spicy) hops, quite bitter.
Medium to light bodied, kinda watery. Medium carbonation. Aftertaste keeps some of that weird coffee, but of hops and burnt bread crust.
The first in the Beer Geek series for me, and not off to a good start. Too thin, weak and unnecessarily weird.
