gin inspired farmhouse pale aged in wine barrels, delicious! pale and hazy, not as lively from the tap as i expected it to be, with a pink peppercorn floral aspect to the nose, zesty citrus, mild juniper and pine and cedar, not as crisp and brightly botanical as gin, but i get the approximation. i like the wood on it, it does add a little heaviness that would be awkward for the theme if the flavor wasnt so bright, some nice oak and wine tannins but the barrel doesnt take over at all thankfully. some newish wild elements to this, farmy funk and saison yeast both, a mixed fermentation i would think, its rustic but also clean, interesting and layered, lots of citrus, grapefruit and lime-like, floral and medicinal, a bit tart, easy drinking though even with the fuller wheaty body. it could use a little more carbonation to pop, but its so fresh to me it never gets heavy. some bitter grapefruit and juniper astringency to finish with the wine. a cool beer, in collaboration with beavertown, fun and summery and different, amazing flavor for such low alcohol, some really cool stuff coming out of mikkeller san diego!
