West Coast style IPA, focusing on Citra hops, with some Idaho 7 and El Dorado to round out the aromas. Expect big tropical fruit and citrus notes upfront followed by some peach and candied fruit. This 7% IPA finishes with a gentle bitterness and light malt sweetness

The Breaking Trail pours real light with a good 1-2 finger foam head. Get good citrus on the nose and from a taste perspective you get a nice sweetness on the tongue with bitterness hitting the back of the throat. This to me is a legit combo of what a like about a west coast with some tropical fruitiness. Well done Pizza Port

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy cream white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Slightly spicy resinous pine, citrus, earthy herbal notes, a little tropical and stone fruit, and bready malt.
T: Resinous pine, earthy herbal notes, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and tangerine that works its way forward as it warms, underlying tropical and stone fruit, apricot, passion fruit, mango, peach, and a faint hint of melon, bready malt, and a fairly dry finish.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, crisp.
O: Pizza Port doing what they do, cranking out quality Westys. Idaho 7 normally isn't my favorite hop, but they really make it work as a nice counterpoint to the fruity Citra to give it that classic resinous bite.

The body is a dark golden color with a fluffy white head of foam that reduces to a somewhat thick ring around the top that leaves some lacing on the sides of the glass. The smell is juicy aromatic hops, citra being the standout. The taste follows the smell, but with a pleasant melon flavor. The feel is right on the money for the style, with enough carbonation to spread the hop flavor and not bite the tongue. Overall, this is a great brew. that is well made and displays an artful blend of hops and balance of ingredients.

Get it! Get it! Get it! Like Too Short in the drop top Caddy, just call me step daddy! Breaking Trail is like that; a beautiful walk in Crystal Cove with your flyest B. And in my case, obviously that’s Mrs Raul. The Southern California sun, Breaking Trail, and Raul on the beat… That’s called a winner.

Packaged on 12/29/22 - enjoyed on 1/4/23 - poured from a tall-boy can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.
Gold/amber liquid with some chill haze and a massive fist of ivory up top. Rocky, sticky lacing; superior retention.
Citra/Idaho 7 pair well, infusing the nose with navel orange, tangerine, both juice and zest, along with some lower floral/pomelo/papaya notes. Maybe a hint of pine and malt at times.
Rich, potent, resinous hop flavor - herbaceous and woodsy, followed by a wave of citrus and some low tropical sweetness. Brisk, clean, crackery malt; neutral yeast - crisp dry finish with a little returning sweetness. Lovely.
Medium-light bodied, slightly oily/soft yet crisp. Well carbonated.
Another wonderfully executed WC IPA, quite similar to Swami's, but with enough specific hop character to distinguish it.

Clear golden yellow brew with rings of foam down the Bellegems Bruin glass. Citrus aroma. Tangy, lush, and sprightly on the tongue. Clean citrus peel taste with a sweet touch. Resiny finish. Moderate bitterness. Overall, a crisp and fruity hoppy brew in the classic style. From the 16 oz can in the six-pack purchased at Trader Joes dated 12/16/22, just two weeks ago.

Canned on 12/19/22 on bottom of can. Poured into a pinot noir glass.
A: Hazy gold with copious 2-finger white foamy head with good retention and endless rings of sticky lacing.
S: Very unique and hard to pinpoint hop aromas which include watermelon, honeydew, mint, herbal, lemongrass, and tea with some citrus and tangerine accents.
T: The herbal/mint combined with the watermelon and juicy tangerine citrus just does not work for me and tastes disjointed. The herbal, lemongrass note is very strong in this IPA, dominant with watermelon playing a close second. Malt backing is plenty adequate with some very mild sweetness. Light fruity esters and low bitterness with alcohol well-hidden.
M: Very light body despite the ABV with dry finish and moderate carbonation.
O: A new world IPA all the way with flavor combos that do not work for me but might get others excited given their uniqueness.

canned 12/16, consumed from a tall tulip on 12/29/22. This is a beautiful example of west coast IPA. voluminous, long lasting white head with lots of lacing. Crystal clear, very light straw color with steady stream of fine carbonation bubbles rising. Smell and taste pretty much as described by the brewer. Really nice mix of citrus and pine. A little bitterness to remind you that this is a WC IPA. The body is much heavier than expected based on the light color. A really nice offering by Pizza port

Canned (pint) 12/16/22, consumed the day after Christmas. Really great West Coast style India Pale Ale. Big fruity, funky citrus with crackery malt on nose and taste. No major specific fruit comes forward for me but rather a very pleasant “hop melange.” Hoppy yes, but more of a candied funky fruity hop that is smooth and finishes medium to dry with a lovely cracker maltiness. Damned good!
