This Imperial Stout was aged 20 months in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels with copious amounts of locally roasted coffee from Happy Mug Coffee Roasters and local maple syrup.

Bottled on 5/3/2019; consumed on 8/13/2023

Pours a viscous, silky, midnight-black body capped with a short-lived ¾ of a finger of fuzzy, mocha-hued foam, leaving a slim, creamy cap, rich, moderate collar, and minimal-no lacing clinging to the walls of the glass.

Aroma opens to malt roast taking in a maple soak as richness expands to notes of maple taffy against a pillowy coffee roast; slight vanillins feed through milk chocolate and accents of mushy fig, while charry oak counters smooth barrel as creamy vanilla residuals linger.

Taste shows flaky malt roast and a faded maple imbuement, with soft coffee settling to a pointed char over the mid-palate as dark cacao builds atop burnt vanilla and gritty oak on the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel offers a medium-full body, slightly chewy in texture, and a subtle fluff of lower-end carbonation; creamy rounds the mid-palate, phasing to a slick glide and a soft warmth building into the back end, where a distant semi-bittering fades through the swallow.

Initial maple saturation settles comfortably across a rangy malt char and welcome coffee detailing; an impressive adjunct longevity preserved in the expansive Voodoo roast profile.

Glossy black with a short mocha film dying to a thin chain.

Super forward of an insane level of maple at first--I'm just shy of getting Mikerphone vibes, which to me is not a good thing--it thankfully just manages to moderate itself. Fitting of its name, it is a rather thin brew, but its fine carbonation actually softens and widens a little to add some body before coming to a sharp, somewhat stinging dry finish.

Nougat develops as it warms and becomes less maple-forward, where room opens up to exhibit more walnut and oak on the palate, which is a stunning development to me considering the starting line.

Taken from the 44 degree portion of my cellar and left on counter for 10 minutes before opening. Poured into a Teku

A: Pours pitch black like motor oil with minimal head. Clings to the glass

S: Nose is maple syrup (NOT artificial in this aspect)/vanilla/oak

T: Although no head on the pour, taste wise it feels a tad overcarbed. Initially maple is semi-prominent, as it warms coffee definitely dominates (especially on the finish). A touch astringent on the back end due to the heavy coffee presence. Barrel is not very prominent.

M: Medium to medium full. Sticky.

O: An enjoyable beer. Coffee overpowers both the barrel and maple as it warms. Prickly carbonation distracts from the overall experience. More balance on the coffee aspect would be appreciated
