Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Sea Smoke oversized wine glass
From: Total Wine & More in Ballantyne (Charlotte), N.C.
Price: $8.49 (was supposed to be 30 percent off, but I never got it)
Purchased: Sept. 9, 2014
Consumed: Sept. 14, 2014
Misc.: Packaged on Oct. 17, 2013
Poured a dark caramel, semi-murky color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy, tan head. Below-average spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average spots of retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled brown sugar, caramel, toffee, Werther’s candy, butterscotch, rye hops, citrus hops and late boozy malts. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste was just OK, but all parts worse than the smell. Got brown sugar, caramel, toffee, light butterscotch, Werther’s, rye hops, citrus hops and herbal hops. Grass, peas and green beans. Not too dandy. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body, Sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 3.50)
Not a very good barleywine. I probably overrated it, but I’m a sucker for barleywines.
(Overall - 3.50)
