Brewed once for GABF. Aged in Barboursville wine barrels, apparently brewed with wine grape seeds, if I understood correctly.
Thin suds, but no head. Ruby brown.
Nose is intense. Burgundy, amlty funk, and a bit of red vinegar.
Taste is awesome. Very sour-- grape, sourdough bread, some vinegar. Undertones of 'horse leather' that the brewer described. Richer underlying malt character balances it out.
Thin mouthfeel, carbonation is sparse, but bright.
Starr Hill succeeds! I'm a bit surprised, but this is an awesome Flanders Red.
