(on tap at Bar 31 - served in a pint glass for $5)
pretty good. has a Belgian (unfiltered yeast?) character. mouthfeel is medium-full, mildly viscous, but balanced out by its firm bitter dryness... bit of a dark stone fruit flavor - dried black cherry?... the nuance of the bitterness gradually reveals itself to be of a citrusy, hoppy nature - could also be partially derived from roasted grain... mild cocoa and coffee flavors... the bitterness later seems to over-balance - is that a word?! - it overtakes whatever dextriny sweetness there is and contributes to its dry finish... is that a bub of bubblegum?... just fine for the price!

I tried this wee heavy on-tap at H'burg's Capital Ale House. It's one of Starr Hill's "all access" beers, part of a series they're doing this year. It packs quite a punch at 8.5% ABV, but remains very sweet and malty, with a touch of caramel and a smooth mouthfeel. I didn't detect too much hoppiness, but I've only tried a few other wee heavies, so it may have been more than usual. Either way, I enjoyed it so I brought home a growler. If you can find it on tap, I recommend it.

Nice lace, reddish brown body, clear.
Nose is kinda tangy, malt and a trace of hops.
Much more hops than belong in a wee heavy, kinda bitter and almost metallic. I remembered this being better when I sampled it, but this isn't holding up as well. It's been in the growler for a week now, so that could be to blame. Kinda roasty, nutty malt flavor, which is much more appropriate.
Coarse to start, smooths out into something kinda airy.
I can't dock this too hard because it's been in a growler for too long; response locally has been pretty positive.
